Job Category: Academic Staff Employment Type: Regular Job Profile: Clin Res Coord II Job Summary: The Clinical Eye Research Unit (CERU) in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is looking for an amazing applicant to grow our team. This position is essential to supporting clinical research by working closely with study team members and physicians and performing required patient procedures for ophthalmic trials. The role will evaluate workflows and policies to ensure high‑quality care and service for research participants, sponsors, and providers. It also supports physicians with resident and fellow research and education activities. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated self‑starter who demonstrates initiative and can work both independently and as part of a high‑performing team. Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are essential. The position requires strong critical‑thinking abilities, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and exceptional documentation practices. The individual will also provide education to research participants of all ages and backgrounds, including information about clinical trial opportunities, basic eye anatomy and physiology, common conditions or diseases, and study expectations. The role requires experience with—or the ability to quickly learn—multiple data‑collection systems and research platforms, as well as the flexibility to adapt to evolving study needs and technologies. This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location. This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years. Key Job Responsibilities: Identifies resource needs and develops clinical research documents, such as job aids, tools, processes, procedures, and training. Contributes to the development of protocols Schedules logistics, determines workflows, and secures resources for clinical research trials Performs quality checks Serves as a main point of contact for clinical research participants, providing information regarding research procedures, expectations, and informational inquiries. Ensures participants follow the research protocol and alerts Principal Investigator of issues Identifies work unit resources needs and manages supply and equipment inventory levels Manages research workflow components, collects, prepares, processes, and submits participant data and samples to appropriate entities, adhering to research protocols May assist with training of staff Recruits, screens, selects, determines eligibility and enrolls trial participants, collects more complex information, performs medical assessments, and answers varied questions under supervision of a medically licensed professional. Performs medical assessments after completion of required training/certification, such as collecting vital signs, obtaining weight, and performing phlebotomy Department: School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Ophthalmology, Clinical Eye Research Unit. Compensation: The starting salary/hourly wage for the position is $54,120 annually but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Previous health care experience is desirable. Previous experience in research data collection preferred. Experience or knowledge of Ophthalmology preferred.
