This role focuses on overhauling, repairing, and testing high-speed production equipment in a large food manufacturing facility. The Maintenance Technician ensures reliable operation of ovens, packaging machines, mixers, cartoners, baggers, stuffers, and related systems by performing mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, fabrication, and basic electrical work. The position supports safe, efficient, and continuous production by maintaining equipment, documenting work, and collaborating closely with maintenance supervision and outside contractors.

Responsibilities

• Overhaul, repair, and test high-speed production equipment, including ovens, packaging machines, mixers, cartoners, baggers, and stuffers throughout the facility.
• Read, interpret, and update shop prints, specifications, and manufacturers manuals to perform servicing, installation, and maintenance of equipment and distribution systems.
• Determine required manpower, materials, tools, and methods needed to complete work assignments and recommend changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
• Perform surface preparation and painting of equipment and structures as needed, and maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas.
• Use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and test equipment to diagnose issues and perform repairs and adjustments.
• Maintain an accurate spare parts inventory, monitor stock levels, and order replacement parts as required to minimize equipment downtime.
• Coordinate with maintenance supervision when locking and tagging systems to ensure proper lockout/tagout procedures and safe work practices.
• Consistently observe and follow all safety standards and practices while performing maintenance tasks and working in production areas.
• Observe and assist outside contractors to ensure their work complies with facility standards, procedures, and safety requirements.
• Train new hires and transferred employees on proper maintenance techniques, equipment operation, and safety standards.
• Apply mechanical maintenance skills to inspect, service, and repair drive trains, belts, pulleys, sprockets, chains, and related mechanical components.
• Perform mechanical troubleshooting to identify root causes of equipment issues and implement effective corrective actions.
• Conduct fabrication tasks, including welding, grinding, and assembly, to repair or modify equipment and support production needs.
• Support basic electrical work on 110V single-phase and 230V/480V three-phase systems as related to equipment maintenance.
• Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of hydraulics, pneumatics, sensors, PLC-controlled systems, motors, and drive systems as required.

Essential Skills

• 25 years of hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• 25 years of experience in mechanical troubleshooting of high-speed production equipment.
• 25 years of experience with fabrication, including welding, grinding, and assembly.
• Practical experience working with drive trains, including belts, pulleys, sprockets, and chains.
• Basic electrical skills with 110V single-phase systems.
• Basic electrical skills with 230V and 480V three-phase systems.
• Experience working with hydraulics and pneumatic systems in a maintenance setting.
• Ability to read, understand, and update shop prints, mechanical drawings, and specifications.
• Ability to interpret and use manufacturers manuals for equipment servicing and installation.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and test equipment used in industrial maintenance.
• Strong understanding of safety standards, including lockout/tagout procedures.
• Ability to maintain accurate spare parts inventory and manage parts ordering.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate with supervision, contractors, and team members.
• Capability to train others in proper maintenance techniques and safety practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience maintaining and troubleshooting high-speed packaging and processing equipment such as ovens, mixers, cartoners, baggers, and stuffers.
• Background in working with sensors, PLC-controlled systems, and motors in an industrial environment.
• Experience preparing and painting surfaces on equipment and facility structures.
• Demonstrated ability to recommend process or method improvements for maintenance tasks.
• Experience working in a large-scale food or consumer goods manufacturing facility.
• Comfort working with equipment of varying ages, from legacy systems to more modern installations.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very large food manufacturing facility that produces well-known snack products. The site consists of two buildings: one housing equipment updated from the 1980s and another with equipment updated from the 2000s, providing exposure to both legacy and more modern production lines. You will work around high-speed production equipment, including ovens, packaging machines, mixers, cartoners, baggers, and stuffers. The environment is industrial and fast-paced, with a strong emphasis on safety practices, including lockout/tagout procedures and adherence to facility standards. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, and test equipment, and may perform tasks such as welding, grinding, painting, and working around electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Dress and personal protective equipment will align with a food manufacturing and industrial maintenance setting, supporting both safety and hygiene requirements.

This is a Permanent position based out of Troy, OH.

The pay range for this position is $66000.00 - $70000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
