Position Summary This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Saddleback Medical Center. Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job Provides continuous labor support by offering emotional reassurance, physical comfort measures (such as mobility assistance, positioning, breathing techniques, and massage), and informational guidance to the birthing person and their support system, ensuring culturally sensitive care and patient advocacy to enhance the birthing experience. Advocates for the birthing person expressed preferences and birth preferences in collaboration with the nursing and medical team, without interfering in medical decisions or clinical care. Assists with basic patient care tasks, including ADLs, vital signs, hygiene, repositioning, ambulation, breastfeeding support, and equipment setup, all under RN supervision. Emphasizes adherence to hospital policies, cultural competence, ongoing education, and fostering a collaborative, positive team environment. Communicates clearly, promptly, and effectively with the registered nurse and other healthcare providers regarding patient needs or changes in behavior or emotional status. Ability to be at work and be on time. Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives. Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner. Ability to prioritize and multitask. *Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements Qualifications/Work Experience One year of experience providing doula services or equivalent labor support is preferred. One year of experience as a Patient Care Assistant in an acute care setting. Basic computer skills. Proficient in verbal and written English.
