Make a difference as a Special Education Teacher in a dedicated elementary Autism program, supporting students with diverse learning needs in a self-contained classroom. This contract opportunity is ideal for professionals passionate about providing individualized instruction and fostering growth for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. You’ll be part of a supportive educational community committed to nurturing both students and educators, with opportunities to utilize research-based methodologies and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Hold a valid Virginia Special Education License.
- Previous teaching experience with students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Background working within self-contained special education classroom settings.
- Knowledge of ABA principles, structured teaching methods, visual schedules, social stories, and functional communication systems.
- Demonstrated skills in supporting students with significant cognitive and behavioral needs.
- Crisis prevention and de-escalation training is highly valued.
Responsibilities:
- Provide daily instruction and life skills coaching to students in an elementary self-contained Autism classroom.
- Implement IEP goals, collect data, and adapt lesson plans using evidence-based strategies.
- Utilize visual supports, structured routines, and individualized communication systems to maximize student engagement.
- Collaborate closely with related service providers, families, and support staff to promote student success.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and organized classroom environment equipped for students with unique behavioral and learning profiles.
- Participate in professional development and contribute to team planning and problem-solving.
This contract role offers an immediate start, continuing through late May 2027, with a set weekly schedule of 35 hours. Contribute your expertise and compassion, and help empower students with Autism to achieve their potential in a specialized elementary setting.
