Job Description

The Converter/Rewind Operator plays a key role in the rotary rewind department by setting up, operating, and monitoring rewind/converting machines to inspect and convert finished products according to customer and company requirements. This position focuses on quality inspection of labels using strobe light and automated inspection systems while product moves through the machine, ensuring accurate, defect-free output and efficient production runs.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate rewind and converting machines in the rotary rewind department.
• Set and adjust machine controls to meet job specifications and production requirements.
• Inspect finished products and labels under strobe light and automated inspection systems while product is moving through the machine.
• Identify printing defects and verify that product quality meets customer and company standards.
• Interpret blueprints and job jackets to understand job requirements and production details.
• Utilize various measuring devices, including tape measures, micrometers, and calipers, to confirm accurate dimensions and specifications.
• Use computer-driven software and basic computer applications to set up, monitor, and document production runs.
• Perform visual inspections and quality checks throughout the production process.
• Continuously work to reduce setup time and minimize scrap, contributing to efficient and cost-effective operations.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working area at all times.
• Ensure compliance with all company safety rules, policies, and procedures.
• Troubleshoot minor equipment issues as they arise to keep machines running smoothly.
• Collaborate with other employees and supervisors in a professional manner and contribute to a strong team environment.
• Support general production, packaging, and printing machine activities as needed.
• Work overtime as required during busier periods to meet production demands.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support overall department and facility operations.

• Ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues during production.
• Capability to perform visual inspections and quality checks on moving product.
• Ability to interface professionally with employees and supervisors at all levels.
• Ability to work effectively within and contribute to a strong team environment.
• Experience with machine setup and operation in a production or manufacturing setting.
• Comfort working with measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and tape measures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Technical or mechanical training is a plus.
• Experience with machine operating, printing machines, or rotary rewind equipment is beneficial.
• Experience in quality checking, visual inspection, and general production or packaging work is advantageous.
• Familiarity with RF scanners and basic production tracking systems is helpful.
• Ability to adapt to different product requirements, including varying inspection and packing processes.
• Comfort working in a climate-controlled, sit-down production environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a climate-controlled production facility within the rotary rewind department, offering a comfortable sit-down job for most tasks. Work is primarily performed on rewind/converting machines and inspection equipment, including strobe lights and automated inspection systems, along with standard measuring devices and computer workstations. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with flexibility to accommodate 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. shifts, and overtime may be required during busier periods from Q3 through Q4 and into February. Personal protective equipment may include safety-toed shoes (preferred), hearing and eye protection, and, for certain products in the packing room, gloves, hair nets, or gowns, depending on specific job requirements. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glen Rock, PA.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
