The La Grange Fire Department is seeking a diverse pool of applicants for the position of Firefighter Paramedic. Qualifications and Eligibility No felony convictions Possess a valid driver’s license Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent Current EMT-B certification at time of application (Note: At the time of hire the applicant must possess a certified EMT-P Paramedic License from the State of Illinois) Be at least 21 and under 35 years of age at the time of application, or as otherwise provided by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Act (65 ILCS 5/10-2.1) Submit proof of a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and approved Ladder Climb card from a licensed agency. The Ladder Climb card must be dated within one year of the application deadline (valid if issued 8/2/2025 - 8/2/2026). Must possess a valid and current CPAT/Ladder Climb card at the time of appointment The La Grange Fire Department requires all employees to enter into an expense reimbursement agreement upon hire Preference Point Information Points may be given only if a proper and valid claim for preference points has been made, as well as supporting documentation submitted. Veteran’s Preference Maximum of 5 points if the applicant was engaged in the military service of the United States for at least one year of active duty and was honorably discharged, or is currently or has been a member on inactive or reserve duty in such military or naval service Educational/Optional Preference Associate’s degree in fire service or emergency medical services – 1 point Bachelor’s degree in any field – 2 points Master’s degree in any field – 4 points Experience Preference Employment by a municipality as a part-time/paid-on-call certified Firefighter II, Illinois/Nationally Licensed EMT-B or EMT-I (or any combination of those capacities) – 0.5 points per year (maximum 5 points) Employment by a municipality as a part-time/paid-on-call certified Firefighter III and Illinois/Nationally Licensed EMT-P – 1 point per year (maximum 5 points) Employment by a municipality or fire protection district as a full-time firefighter or firefighter-paramedic for at least two years – 5 points Salary As of May 1, 2026, starting salary is $74,153; top salary after 6 years is $110,510.
