Film, VFX & Animation Visual Quality Expert

Role Overview

Help develop foundational generative AI models by applying expert-level visual judgment to high-resolution video and still imagery. You will assess enhanced and upscaled outputs frame by frame, determining whether they meet professional image-quality standards and identifying flaws that are often missed by general viewers.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate high-resolution video and stills at the pixel level for compression artifacts, noise, aliasing, banding, grain-structure inconsistencies, and over- or under-sharpening.
• Identify where visual output falls short of professional image-quality standards.
• Design and refine evaluation templates and rating guidelines to ensure reviewers apply consistent standards, including in edge cases.
• Convert complex visual observations into clear, precise language for data captions and evaluation templates.
• Create visual samples for targeted testing and side-by-side comparisons.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts and program leads to maintain visual consistency across sequences and reviewers.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of professional experience evaluating high-end visuals in film, VFX, animation, or professional photography.
• Professional experience as a VFX Supervisor, Rendering Supervisor, Lighting Supervisor, Lead, or Artist, Colorist, Director of Photography or Cinematographer, Effects or Surfacing Artist, High-End Photographer, Director with substantial crowd and background-action experience, or Digital Projectionist.
• Training from a university or program with a highly respected film, visual effects, or digital media program.
• Reliable access to a 4K-resolution monitor or display for pixel-level evaluation.
• Familiarity with AI tools and workflows, including the ability to create visual samples for testing and comparison.
• Fluent English communication skills and the ability to describe complex visual details clearly and precisely.

Work Terms

• Part-time W-2 employment supporting a leading AI lab.
• Commitment of 20 hours per week.
• Remote work within the United States, with working hours overlapping the PST to EST window.

Compensation

• Hourly compensation of $60 to $90.
