Assistant Coach of Men’s and Women’s Golf

Position Overview The Assistant Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach supports the Head Golf Coach in all aspects of the University of Redlands’ men’s and women’s golf programs, including planning, administration, and evaluation of program operations. This full‑time assistant coach plays a critical role in team instruction, recruitment, and retention efforts for both programs. Reporting to the Head Golf Coach, the assistant coach furtheres the mission of the University, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Bulldog men’s and women’s golf programs. The assistant coach must comply with all University, NCAA, and SCIAC rules and policies. The position requires flexibility to work nights and weekends, as well as traveling for extended periods to compete and recruit. Duties and Responsibilities Assist with all administrative aspects of the men’s and women’s golf programs, including completion of administrative paperwork, team travel logistics, practice plans, business operation, compliance, equipment, facilities, and events. Identify, evaluate, recruit, and retain qualified prospective student‑athletes for both programs, meeting the roster expectations set by the Head Coach, Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Admissions Team. Maintain effective and consistent communication with prospective student‑athletes and Admissions; arrange and conduct on‑ and off‑campus visits. Assist with on‑course coaching, training, and skill development for men and women. Plan, execute, and maintain all aspects of the men’s and women’s program’s social media sites (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). Perform a departmental administrative assignment supporting programs; assignment determined by the strengths, skills, and experience of the successful candidate. Function as an active team member of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics by attending all required staff meetings and completing mandatory tasks. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Qualifications Guidelines Bachelor’s degree. At least three (3) years of golf coaching/instructional experience. Demonstrated ability to recruit and attract high‑achieving student‑athletes. Clear understanding of NCAA Division III philosophy and the role of physical education, recreational sports, and athletics within a private, liberal arts academic setting. A valid California Class C driver’s license with a good driving record; out‑of‑state licenses are valid until appointment. A California Class “C” license must be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (per CA Vehicle Code 12505c). Preferred Qualifications One year or more of intercollegiate golf coaching experience. Coaching license or certification. Master’s degree. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of applicable team or individual sports and playing rules. Understanding of NCAA Division III and SCIAC philosophy, rules, and regulations. Ability to attract outstanding students to the University. Strong interpersonal, motivational, and team leadership skills. Ability to communicate information verbally and in writing. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced environment with changing priorities. Leadership with professional integrity and ethical standards in compliance with safety rules. Knowledge of personal computers, software, and applications. Aptitude to learn new and evolving technology. Ability to recommend appropriate courses of action within established guidelines. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations. Understanding of federal and state policies and laws. Ability to foster strong, positive relationships and align internal and external resources to achieve university objectives. Competence in interacting with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff. Physical Requirements / Working Conditions Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. The environment may involve hazards or physical risks requiring basic safety precautions. The role requires significant travel for athletic contests and recruiting activities, and flexibility to work nights and weekends as required by team schedules.
