Speech Language Pathologist

Basic Functions: The Speech-Language Pathologist within Inspire provides evaluation and intervention in areas of communication (speech, voice, language, fluency, pragmatics), oral motor function and swallowing. The SpeechLanguage Pathologist recommends goals and objectives that are educationally appropriate and medically necessary, measurable, well-written and reflect the student's intervention needs. The Speech-Language Pathologist administers formal and informal assessments appropriately, interprets the results accurately, and diagnoses appropriately. Essential Functions: This position combines professional service delivery with the development of functional and developmentally appropriate communication skills within an educationally driven context and mandate. Specific expectations include but are not limited to the following:

Patient Care Responsibilities:

1. Provide quality evaluation and therapy services for students. Quality is measured by progress made by students, appropriate use of techniques, and currency of professional knowledge.

Quality treatment sessions are

• well-organized,
• goal-directed, and
• use a variety of age-appropriate materials that are of interest to the student,
• effectively use time, materials, and resources to ensure treatment efficacy,
• encourage age-appropriate independence by the student,
• respect and support all forms of communication, and
• create opportunities for enhancing skills.
• Maintain a caseload of 50 care sessions weekly, including evaluations as assigned.

2. Accurately prescribe and provide services in accordance with medical/clinical plans of care, IEPs and IFSPs.

• Accurate service provision is measured by (1) delivery of treatments equal to 85-100% of what is ordered, and (2) patient service delivered across no less than 65% of the work day.

3. Complete required documentation that is accurate and timely.

• Required documentation includes treatment plans, daily treatment notes, periodic progress reports and annual updates for educational programs and progress monitoring, evaluation reports and discharge summaries. Documentation is measured by completeness of information and timeliness according to policy.

Professional Responsibilities:

1. Provide appropriate and effective direction of speech teachers within the school, following the "under the direction of" mandates given by NYS Medicaid-in-Education, and maintaining professional and legal responsibility for the care provided.
2. Maintain currency of NYS licensing and registration, ASHA certification, and NYS teaching certification, and provide current copies of all credentials to Human Resources.
3. Obtain continuing educational credits each year and submit proof of continuing education attendance to Human Resources.
4. Participate, within the scheduled workday, in team meetings including department meetings, service team meetings including educational team meetings, and mandatory trainings. Participate in school "Open House" events at least once per year. Participation is measured by attendance and active involvement.
5. Maintain compliance with program regulations, licensing standards, and professional code of ethics and conduct, including health and safety and infection control, and by specific reference, ASHA and NYS professional standards and codes of ethics.

General Responsibilities:

• Maintain compliance with institutional regulations, state and federal requirements (e.g., HIPAA, corporate compliance, etc.), Inspire's policies, and Inspire's Code of Conduct.
• Participate in and cooperate with Inspire's Corporate Compliance program and activities, including investigations or audits.
• Communicate changes in services, schedules, workdays and hours to the Supervisor, Preschool Speech Services.

Additional Functions:

• Adheres to safety policies and procedures and promotes a safe workplace. Ensures that students receive services in a safe environment. Ensures department/classroom/program staff adheres to safety policies and procedures. Report any potentially unsafe conditions to area administrator, Facilities, or Safety Committee Chair. Is accountable for prevention of accidents and injuries within the department and program.
• Follow current policies and procedures regarding agency, department and program services and requirements.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology
• New York State license and current registration as a Speech-Language Pathologist
• Certificate of Clinical Competence (ASHA)
• Teaching certification in Students with Speech-Language Disorders (TSSLD) or Speech & Hearing Handicaps (TSHH)
• Strong verbal and written language skills, and demonstrated ability to work well within a team

License/Certification:

• New York State SLP license (Required); Clinical Fellow/Limited Permit accommodated
• New York State TSSLD certification (Required)

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
