Job Overview

Become a part of our organization as the Chief of Psychiatry Services at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Francisco, CA!

In this leadership role, the Chief will oversee the Mental Health (MH) Service, establishing both short- and long-term objectives, policies, and procedures to ensure successful outcomes and quality assurance through data-driven methods. The Chief will also be responsible for preparing sensitive reports, responses to Congressional inquiries, briefing documents, and decision papers for the medical center's leadership. This role involves developing policies and procedures, creating performance standards, and monitoring the clinical effectiveness of the staff. Additionally, the Chief will conduct performance evaluations and fulfill various clinical and administrative duties to ensure the service and medical center's mission is achieved.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Direct a multidisciplinary service within a Tier 1A facility.

• Engage in a clinical program focused on patient outcome metrics.

• Operate within the limits of assigned privileges.

• Adhere to the bylaws, rules, and regulations of the facility and agency.

• Fulfill medical staff requirements for initial and reappointment, including Continuing Medical Education (CME).

• Follow prescribed record-keeping practices in line with established rules and regulations.

• Comply with information security policies and procedures.

• Collaborate effectively with patients, families, staff, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.

• Participate in educational and research activities within the Mental Health Service and attend scheduled meetings.

• Complete all assigned healthcare record reviews, peer evaluations, and other responsibilities within designated timeframes.

• Maintain quality assurance standards through assigned peer reviews.

Board certification is mandatory due to faculty status associated with UCSF affiliation.

• Meet medical staff criteria for initial and reappointment, including ongoing CME.

• Follow prescribed record-keeping practices in accordance with established rules and regulations.

• Work collaboratively with patients, families, staff, coworkers, and other healthcare professionals.

• Participate in educational activities and scheduled meetings within the Medical Service.

• Maintain quality assurance standards through assigned peer reviews.

• Complete all assigned healthcare record reviews and peer evaluations within specified timelines.

* Expected Salary Range: Between $280K - $350K (negotiable based on qualifications, credentials, and experience).

* Work Schedule: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

* Compensation: Competitive salary, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increases.

* Paid Time Off: 50-55 days annually (including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and potentially 5 days for CME).

* Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5-year vesting) and federal 401K with contributions up to 5% from the organization.

* Licensure: One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory is required.

* CME: Possible reimbursement of up to $1,000 per year (must be full-time with board certification).

* Malpractice: Liability protection with tail coverage provided at no cost.

* Contract: No physician employment contract and minimal restrictions on moonlighting.
