A Plant Maintenance Supervisor for an automotive supplier in Michigan is responsible for overseeing the repair, installation, and upkeep of manufacturing equipment and facilities. In the Michigan market—dominated by Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers for companies like GM, Ford, and Stellantis—this role heavily emphasizes Lean manufacturing and high-volume production uptime.
Job SummaryThe Plant Maintenance Supervisor leads a team of multi-skilled technicians (mechanical, electrical, PLC) to ensure maximum equipment availability and facility safety. This role involves managing preventative maintenance (PM) schedules, coordinating emergency repairs, and driving continuous improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities- Team Leadership: Manage, train, and schedule maintenance technicians across multiple shifts. Oversee unionized or non-union workforces in compliance with labor agreements.
- Maintenance Strategy: Execute preventative and predictive maintenance programs using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) like SAP or Maximo.
- Production Uptime: Troubleshoot and repair robotic cells (Fanuc, ABB), CNC machines, stamping presses, and conveyor systems to minimize downtime.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all work meets OSHA, MIOSHA, and environmental standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols.
- Budgeting: Manage the maintenance budget, including spare parts inventory and contractor services.
- Education: Associate’s degree in a technical field or a Journeyman card is preferred; a Bachelor’s in Engineering is a plus.
- Experience: 5+ years in industrial maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role within an automotive manufacturing environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in PLCs (Allen Bradley/Siemens), hydraulics, pneumatics, and high-voltage electrical systems.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with IATF 16949 quality standards and Six Sigma/Lean methodologies.
