Position Title:Special Project Assistant HourlyJob Description:We are looking for a Special Projects Assistant – Hourly.About the Position:The Department of Economic Development is seeking a Special Projects Assistant to provide project and administrative support for Salt Lake City’s Sister Cities Program and other department initiatives. This position will help coordinate Sister Cities activities, support board and committee operations, communicate with community and international partners, conduct research, and assist with events, meetings, and special projects.The ideal candidate is organized, collaborative, and comfortable working with a diverse range of partners. This position is well suited for someone interested in local government, international relations, economic development, or community engagement who can manage multiple assignments and help move projects from planning through implementation.About the Team:The Department of Economic Development’s (Department) mission is to build Salt Lake City as a vibrant, beautiful, prosperous, diverse, and authentic place. This position may close at any time without notice.Key Responsibilities:Provides administrative and project support for Salt Lake City’s Sister Cities Program and other Department of Economic Development initiatives.Supports Sister Cities board and committee activities, including coordinating meetings, preparing agendas and materials, tracking action items, maintaining program records, and supporting compliance with applicable City requirements.Coordinates communication and maintains relationships with Sister Cities partners, community organizations, international stakeholders, City departments, and other governmental and community partners.Assists with planning and coordinating Sister Cities activities, including visiting delegations, cultural and educational exchanges, community events, and other international engagement opportunities.Conducts research and prepares background information, reports, presentations, correspondence, and other materials related to Sister Cities and assigned department projects.Tracks program activities, projects, deadlines, and deliverables and provides regular updates to department staff and leadership.Responds to routine inquiries from partners and the public and coordinates more complex matters with appropriate department staff.Represents the department at meetings and events as assigned and assists with meeting facilitation and follow-up.Provides support for other Department of Economic Development projects and initiatives as workload and priorities require.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration or a closely related field or four (4) years paid professional experience including any combination of research, statistical analysis, project and legislative review, policy development, and related activities. Preference may be given to candidates with public sector experience. Experience and education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.Basic knowledge of international affairs and diplomacyDemonstrated ability to manage projects and/or initiatives.Ability to prepare and present project details to Division Managers, City Council, and general public.Knowledge of government operations and processes.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups and people, including elected officials, department officials, staff, community representatives, and international stakeholders.Demonstrated ability to work independently with initiative, self-reliance, and dependability.Working Conditions:Light physical effort. Intermittent sitting, standing and walking.
