Structural Fabrication Fitter & Tack Welder

Location: Siler City, NC 27344
Compensation: $22.00 per hour
Schedule: 1st Shift, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Status: Contract-to-Hire
Hours: 40/week with overtime as needed

You clock in at 7:00 AM, blueprint in hand. The first hour is all about translating drawings into precise layouts—measuring, marking, and squaring up structural components. By mid-morning, you’re clamping, jigging, and aligning parts so they’re perfectly positioned. Short, clean tack welds lock everything into place. Before lunch, you verify dimensions, squareness, and tolerances so the assembly hits the welding department ready to go. The afternoon brings another project: cutting to spec, dry fitting, spotting potential alignment issues, and correcting them before they become rework. You finish the day by organizing your station and noting anything the next team needs to know.

• Interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and fabrication plans to perform accurate layout and fit-up.
• Measure, mark, cut, and position structural and fabricated metal components per specifications.
• Align components using clamps, fixtures, jigs, levels, and squares to achieve correct fit.
• Apply tack welds—preferably using MIG—to secure assemblies for final weld.
• Check dimensions, squareness, and overall alignment prior to release to the weld shop.
• Operate fabrication tools and equipment (grinders, saws, hand/power tools) safely and effectively.
• Identify and resolve misalignment or fit-up issues before the next stage.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while meeting quality and production expectations.

• Hands-on experience in metal or structural fabrication, fitting, or a closely related trade.
• Confident reading shop drawings/blueprints and converting them into accurate setups.
• Proven skill in layout, alignment, and preparation for welding.
• Comfort with tack welding (MIG preferred) to secure parts prior to final weld.
• Strong measurement skills and comfort working to tight tolerances.
• Proficiency with tape measures, squares, levels, grinders, clamps, and related fabrication tools.
• Ability to independently set up, fit, and prepare parts for welding.
• Detail-driven, quality-focused, and productive in a shop environment.

We’re looking for a fitter/fabricator who excels at taking components from drawing to ready-to-weld assemblies. This position emphasizes layout, alignment, setup, and tack welding far more than production welding.

• Professional metal fabrication and machinery production shop.
• Primarily in-shop work with regular lifting and positioning of metal components.
• Active role on your feet—standing, walking, bending, and tool work throughout the shift.
• Comfort operating around industrial equipment and fabrication processes is a must.

• Monday–Friday day shift; overtime as needed.
• Contract-to-hire with potential for permanent placement after approximately 520 hours .

• Must successfully complete a standard background check.
• Must pass a 4-panel drug screening; THC is not permitted .
