Job Opportunity: Faculty Psychologist at Our Organization

Our organization, in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, is on the lookout for a faculty psychologist to become a part of the interdisciplinary team at the Comprehensive Headache Center. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in health psychology, pain psychology, or specialized headache treatments.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

• Conducting biopsychosocial evaluations.
• Creating customized treatment strategies.
• Delivering a comprehensive array of evidence-based therapeutic interventions aimed at assisting patients in managing pain and stress, thereby enhancing their quality of life.
• Participating in interprofessional research focused on headache treatment.
• Providing training and supervision to psychology and medical trainees regarding psychosocial assessments and interventions for headache patients.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• A solid background in clinical health psychology and integrated care for medically ill populations.
• A doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program, completion of an APA-accredited internship, and at least one year of supervised postdoctoral training.
• Licensure or eligibility for licensure in Georgia.
• Board certification from the American Board of Professional Psychology is expected within seven years of commencing this faculty role.
• Certification in biofeedback must be obtained within three years of starting this faculty position.

Key Competencies

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in:

• Core principles and practices of health psychology and pain psychology.
• Thorough biopsychosocial assessments for headaches and associated psychological disorders.
• Evidence-based therapeutic techniques (such as cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness therapies) to decrease headache frequency, alleviate pain, enhance functioning, and improve overall quality of life.
• Biofeedback and/or neurofeedback therapy for headache management (preferred but not mandatory).
• Evidence-based approaches for psychological disorders that may accompany headaches (including depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders, personality disorders, and bipolar disorder).
• Collaboration and teamwork across various professional disciplines.
