PAY RATE : $21.57 - $22.70 PER HOUR

HEAD START/EARLY HEAD START – Through our programs, we work with children (ages 0–5) and families to provide skills, confidence, and stable home life necessary for a smooth transition into kindergarten and beyond. Children receive a broad array of health, nutrition, and educational services.

JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

The Head Start Teacher (Substitute) provides an environment that supports children’s social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development appropriate to their age and stage, aiming for social competence. Specific Duties Include Provide a varied activity environment that fosters development across all domains. Implement the program curriculum and plan individual and group activities for morning and afternoon sessions. Collaborate with Co‑Teacher and Family Advocate to offer resources and support families. Integrate nutrition, health, and mental health services into student learning. Maintain classroom records and submit accurate monthly paperwork. Observe, screen, and assess children’s developmental levels and develop individualized goals. Support parent involvement and role as primary educators. Ensure the environment reflects the cultural/ethnic diversity of the program and community. Maintain a physical setting that meets state and local licensing and safety standards. Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Work on-site, reporting to work each day of active employment. Plan and implement curriculum for morning and afternoon sessions. Integrate health services with learning. Observe, screen, and assess developmental progress. Develop activities that support parent education.

MANDATED REPORTER

All employees are considered mandated reporters and must report any instance of physical or sexual abuse to the appropriate authorities.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIREMENTS

Pass fingerprint clearance, background check, employment and education verifications. Have access to a vehicle with insurance and a valid California driver’s license or other reliable transportation. Provide TB clearance within 6 months. Immunizations for pertussis and measles. Complete health screening at time of employment. Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., kneel, squat, and move quickly in a busy environment.

EDUCATION

12 units of Early Childhood Education or Child Development. Meets requirements for an Associate Teacher Permit.

EXPERIENCE

Experience working with children.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1 year of teaching experience. Knowledge of Head Start performance standards. Familiarity with licensing regulations. Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal).
