Responsibilities Aircraft Mechanic II (SMM) personnel shall perform a full range of aircraft sheet metal duties including, but not limited to, disassemble, modify, repair, and reassemble complex aircraft metal items and systems (bulkheads, airframes, spars, air scoops, wings, flaps, pylons, sponsons, fuselages, skins, ribs, gussets, and fuel tanks). These items and systems have combined straight and curved edges and irregular curves and planes. Analyze and evaluate structural damage to metal systems and items; develop patterns using a combination of parallel and radial line development; fabricate, install, and repair a variety of items and systems made from a wide variety of metals (stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb, alloys, aluminum); replace sections and patch old systems; cut, bend, shape, and form metals for items with numerous irregular angles, planes, and curves with varying pitch and circumference; use a variety of assembly joints, complex fastening systems, riveted or welded joints, drill or punch holes; and assemble or repair items by seaming, soldering, bolting, screwing, riveting, tacking, and spot welding. Assembly methods shall meet appearance and strength standards, as well as critical tolerances. Must be a contractor subject to the FRCSW administered certification skills examination and shall use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, protractors, snap ring, height, depth, dial and screw pitch gauges, squares, rulers, trammel points, and sine bars. Must perform all duties associated with aircraft sheet metal support on F‑18 Naval Type Model Series aircraft. Maintain repairs and modify aircraft structures and structural components of moderate to complex difficulty, including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatic, fuel systems and mechanical components. Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and discrepancies. Apply required expertise in restoring aircraft component condition and/or operation. Apply comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation (blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, Local Engineering Instructions, work orders). Manufacture and install new parts, reinforce, patch, and replace defective parts; apply accurate riveting techniques for proper spacing, fit, durability, structural soundness, and appearance. Comply with all required trainings and administrative functions required by the company and the customer. Assist in maintaining NAMP programs, ensure contract artisans follow Ground Operating Procedures, and ensure personnel comply with safety procedures. Qualifications Minimum Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum experience or military experience as aircraft airframes or sheet metal mechanic. Other Requirements Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship required. Must be able to pass a NACI, which may include a credit check. We maintain a drug‑free workplace and perform post‑offer, pre‑employment substance abuse testing. Skills & Technology Used Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving: possesses both analytical and interpersonal skills; good problem‑solving, negotiation and organizational skills/techniques; working knowledge of computer systems and Advance Skill Management (ASM) or willingness to learn. Knowledge of electronic publications (IETM, NATEC, service bulletins, technical publications, blueprints, IPB, MIM, LES, LPS, TEI). Business Partner/Effective Communicator: English language skills to communicate with customers; strong communicator capable of clear written and oral communication; ability to train others; customer‑service oriented, detail focused, pro‑active behavior, multi‑task capability. Software: Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, personal computer, printer, copy machine, and other general office equipment. Compensation & Benefits At V2X we strive to be market competitive in our total rewards. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be based on the current rate agreed in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for this site. Salary range (per hour): USD 88,000 - 91,000. Pay and benefits are subject to change at any time and may be modified at the discretion of the company.
