Job Summary
Utilizing the nursing process, responsibility for providing for immediate and long-term nursing care needs of patients within the standards of the department, hospital and regulatory agencies. Does this position require patient care? Yes. Essential functions include accurately assessing patients' needs, utilizing multiple data sources to determine actual/potential health problems and functional status, utilizing the recovery oriented framework to identify patient strengths, performing point of care testing, communicating findings effectively to members of the healthcare team, documenting response to intervention, demonstrating an understanding of patients' response to treatment interventions, identifying patient behaviors that contribute to the development of a crisis, utilizing non-verbal and verbal techniques to de-escalate crisis situation, accurately planning nursing interventions for assigned patients, modifying and individualizing nursing plan of care and protocols, participating in the development of the multidisciplinary treatment plan, demonstrating ability to prioritize patient care needs, partnering with patients/families to support recovery goals, providing and implementing nursing care interventions, establishing a therapeutic alliance with assigned patients, demonstrating safe, accurate and timely medication administration using BMV scanning, reviewing physician orders in a timely manner, promoting interventions that provide the least restrictive alternatives and recovery oriented goals, participating in leading patient groups, accurately evaluating the effectiveness of nursing care interventions, documenting on the nursing plan of care, protocols, and assessment flowsheet reflects response to intervention, demonstrating an understanding of patients' response to treatment interventions, accurately communicating patients' clinical status at clinical team rounds and change of shift reports, utilizing evidence based nursing knowledge to guide practice decisions, providing a leadership role in organizing and providing patient care, providing direction and supervision of MHSs, assuming a leadership role in medical and psychiatric emergencies, promoting/providing for critical incident de-briefing following emergency event, anticipating acute milieu problems and delegating staff appropriately, participating in the training and education of RNs, MHSs, and other healthcare providers, providing for teaching needs of patient and significant others, providing health teaching related to patient needs and recovery goals, documenting teaching in the patient's record, informing treatment team of patient and significant others' learning needs, maintaining a commitment to professional growth and competency, completing mandatory in-service requirements, maintaining competency for treating patient population, seeking constructive feedback regarding work performance from peers and professional colleagues, identifying strengths and areas for professional/practice development with supervisor, demonstrating effective interpersonal communication, maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality, communicating positively, supportively, and with courtesy to the patients and staff, presenting self in a positive and professional manner, contributing to the productivity and cost-effectiveness of the hospital, department, and unit, demonstrating effective time management, demonstrating economical management of services and supplies, notifying shift coordinator/charge nurse of availability for additional assignments.
Qualifications
Education: Other Certificate/Diploma Nursing required or Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No. Licenses and Credentials: Registered Nurse [RN - State License] - Generic - HR Only required. Experience: No experience required; one year medical/psychiatric experience preferred 0-1 year preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Requires demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. Ability to utilize the nursing process and to work collaboratively. MR safety certification. Standard blood draw procedures (excluding IV placement). Ability to work as part of a team. All employees must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes.
