ROCKY MOUNTAIN YOUTH CORPS – 2026 FALL SEASON

Rocky Mountain Youth Corps (RMYC) is a nonprofit youth development organization serving New Mexico. We inspire young adults to make a positive difference in themselves and their communities through training and service.

POSITION PURPOSE

Assistant Crew Leaders (ACLs) play a pivotal role in building successful crews and meaningful programming. They are leaders, facilitators, and communicators, tasked with inspiring fellow Corpsmembers to achieve personal and professional growth.

Seasonal, full time, exempt AmeriCorps member

SCHEDULE

Hybrid schedule – day work Tuesday‑Friday 7:00 am‑5:30 pm, weekends off; spike schedule Tuesday‑Tuesday 7:00 am‑5:30 pm, 8 days on followed by 6 days off, camping at the project site.

EDUCATION AWARD

$1,956.35 upon completion of 450‑hour AmeriCorps Service Term

REPORTING

Reports to Crew Supervisor, with supervision by Middle Rio Grande Conservation Program Coordinator

DATES

August 10, 2026 – November 13, 2026

LOCATION

RMYC Albuquerque Office 2921 2nd St. SW, Albuquerque, NM 87107 and project locations throughout the state. Reliable transportation required.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in creating a collaborative leadership structure with shared responsibilities. Facilitate scheduled educational training and field teaching moments. Model professional behavior, environmental stewardship, and work ethic. Commit to a culture of safety. Assist during disaster relief work (up to 45 days if deployed). Project management: coordinate with crew, program staff, sponsors, and partners to accomplish projects efficiently. Lead crew or portions of crew under program staff direction (excluding supervisory tasks like discipline or time‑card approval). Track daily tool issues and maintain tools. Prepare supplies and equipment daily: first aid kits, vehicle inspections, PPE. Facilitate crew meetings. Manage reporting requirements and project impact paperwork. Create personal leadership development plan. Comply with all RMYC and AmeriCorps rules and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Age 18‑30 years as of August 10, 2026. U.S. Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident. Ability to commit to the full service term. Experience or interest in environmental or conservation projects. Community volunteer or service‑learning background. Physical ability to perform strenuous tasks in adverse weather. Good public speaking skills for crew training. Strong organizational and communication skills; punctual and reliable. Open to constructive feedback. Flexibility, adaptability, and teamwork. Maturity to supervise and motivate peers. Initiative and follow‑through on project goals.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION

Previous RMYC or similar youth development/conservation experience. Leadership experience in mentoring or instruction. Tool use and safety knowledge. Proficient driving of trucks and/or 4x4 SUVs with trailer. Wilderness medicine certification (WFA, WFR). Knowledge of safety and risk management techniques. Consistent positive mental attitude.

EVALUATION

Members serving less than a full‑time term ( TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Periodic overnight travel and non‑traditional work hours, including weekend and evening hours.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Lift/move up to 50 lb occasionally, 20 lb frequently, 10 lb constantly. Traverse uneven terrain; balance, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, grasp. Visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and ensure work quality. Receive/understand detailed oral or written instructions. Work outdoors in variable environmental conditions.
