CDL Transportation Routing & Dispatch Coordinator – Foodservice Distribution

RDP Foodservice – Hilliard, Ohio

RDP Foodservice is seeking an experienced Transportation Routing & Dispatch Coordinator with hands-on experience supporting CDL delivery drivers in a distribution environment .

This is not a warehouse logistics or inventory position. We are looking for someone who has worked in a transportation operation supporting CDL drivers, preferably in foodservice, beverage, grocery, broadline distribution, or another high-volume, multi-stop delivery operation .

The ideal candidate understands the day-to-day demands of a CDL delivery operation-building and adjusting routes, supporting drivers, responding to delivery issues, coordinating dispatch activities, and making real-time decisions to keep deliveries moving safely and efficiently.

Previous leadership experience is a plus, and candidates who have served as a Transportation Supervisor, Dispatch Supervisor, Driver Manager, Lead Dispatcher, Router, or similar transportation leadership role may be an excellent fit.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday–Friday

This position supports our afternoon transportation planning and routing operation, with a typical schedule beginning in the late morning and ending in the early evening .

What You'll Do

As our Transportation Routing & Dispatch Coordinator, you will work closely with Transportation leadership and our CDL drivers to plan and support successful daily deliveries.

Key responsibilities include:

• Build and optimize daily delivery routes for Class A CDL drivers
• Plan delivery sequences based on geography, customer delivery windows, route efficiency, and driver schedules
• Review routes, loads, and delivery schedules before dispatch to identify potential issues
• Support daily dispatch operations and communicate directly with drivers regarding route and delivery changes
• Make real-time routing adjustments when drivers encounter delays, customer issues, equipment problems, call-offs, or other unexpected situations
• Coordinate with warehouse operations to ensure loads support planned delivery routes and stop sequences
• Monitor route performance, delivery times, driver hours, and overall transportation efficiency
• Help maximize trailer utilization while maintaining safe and practical delivery routes
• Work closely with Transportation, Warehouse Operations, Customer Service, and Sales to resolve delivery issues
• Maintain accurate transportation records and system information
• Support DOT compliance, Hours of Service requirements, safety standards, and company policies
• Identify opportunities to improve routing, driver productivity, delivery efficiency, and customer service
• Assist Transportation leadership with reporting, special projects, and continuous process improvement

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Previous experience working in or directly supporting a CDL driver delivery operation
• Experience with transportation routing, dispatch, driver operations, or delivery route planning
• Understanding of the day-to-day challenges involved in supporting Class A CDL drivers and multi-stop delivery routes
• Ability to make quick, sound decisions when routes or deliveries do not go according to plan
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with professional drivers, warehouse operations, customer service, and management
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced transportation environment
• Strong computer skills and attention to detail

Strongly Preferred:

• Experience with a foodservice distributor, beverage distributor, grocery distributor, broadline distributor, or similar multi-stop delivery operation
• Experience routing or dispatching Class A CDL drivers
• Previous leadership or management experience supervising CDL drivers, dispatchers, or transportation operations
• Experience as a Transportation Supervisor, Dispatch Supervisor, Driver Manager, Lead Dispatcher, Router, or similar transportation role
• Experience with Roadnet or comparable routing/transportation management software
• Working knowledge of DOT regulations and Hours of Service requirements
• Experience planning routes involving multiple customer stops, delivery windows, and changing daily demands

A degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, Transportation, or a related field is helpful, but relevant hands-on transportation and CDL driver operations experience is more important to us.
