Occupational Therapist - PRN

Responsibilities Evaluate patients within twenty‑four (24) hours of physician referral. If evaluation cannot be completed in 24 hours, document the reason for the delay in the medical record. Develop effective treatment plans and obtain approval for services from the referring physician. Treat patients according to the approved treatment plan. Assist the nursing department with training of restorative aides and supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs) in direct patient care, ensuring compliance with the state practice act. Communicate patient progress, problems, and plan updates to supervisors and other health‑team members. Participate in Patient Care Conferences, Utilization Review meetings, and Rehabilitation Conferences as needed. Participate in the in‑services training program for other facility staff. Maintain records of evaluations, daily treatment notes, weekly progress notes, and recertification documentation per Occupational Therapy Board, state practice act, and payer requirements. Record treatment changes in accordance with policy and procedures. Educate patients’ families or nursing staff on maintenance programs and caregiver training for discharge from therapy services. Assist in discharge planning and recommend durable medical equipment to support patient independence (e.g., braces, walkers, canes, elevated toilet seats, grab bars). Report any equipment problems to ensure maintenance and safe operation. Maintain positive and professional relationships with patients/residents, families, staff, and professional colleagues. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs), aides, and students in direct patient care activities. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy (preferred: Master’s or Doctorate program). Licensure: Licensed as an Occupational Therapist in the state, with continued education and a license in good standing at all times. Computer Proficiency: Inputting data into programs such as Casamba and Point Click Care. Language Skills: Ability to read technical procedures and policy manuals, and effectively present information to managers, coworkers, and families. Mathematical Skills: Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Skills: Solve practical problems and interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form. Physical Demands Performing the essential functions of this position requires frequent standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, pushing/pulling, talking, hearing, and in some cases exerting force up to 100 pounds occasionally or 50 pounds frequently. Occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may also be required. Vision and auditory abilities are necessary to adjust focus, perceive color, and process depth. Work Environment The work environment is typically low to moderate in noise level, and reasonable accommodations can be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
