Pharmacist in Charge

Job description POSITION TITLE: Pharmacist in Charge
DEPARTMENT: Pharmacy
NATURE OF POSITION: The Pharmacist in Charge performs all the duties of a pharmacist with the added responsibility of managing the business part of the pharmacy. The PIC will ensure pharmacy compliance with all state and federal regulatory agencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree from accredited College of Pharmacy
- Doctor of Pharmacy License from Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy
- Minimum FIVE (5) years' experience as a licensed pharmacist is preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Communicates with providers to influence optimal drug therapy in accordance with
approved protocols and current practice.
- Monitors patients' drug therapy and provides drug information to patients and health
care providers.
- Oversees and directs pharmacy staff in the execution of technical functions.
- Using computerized data system, records prescriptions, checks for drug
interactions.
- Verifies all drugs are labeled properly, including the addition of auxiliary labels.
- Ensures that only a pharmacist (or authorized pharmacy personnel under the
direction and supervision of the pharmacist), dispenses medications, makes label
changes or transfers to different containers.
- Ensures that all functions of the pharmacy are maintained and carried out.
- Upholds and abides by patient confidentiality policies and procedures.
- Actively participates in agency-sponsored staff training events (safety instruction,
evacuation drills, OSHA training, etc.)
- Communicates with pharmacy director as needed to ensure department functions
appropriately.
- Maintains professional appearance; follows established dress code.
- Participates in continuing compliance with HRSA 340B regulations and
requirements.
- Assists in departmental audits in conjunction with Director of Pharmacy and
Compliance Officer
- Ensures pharmacy compliance with all relevant OSHA and Joint Commission rules
and regulations.
- Ensures that the pharmacy meets standards set forth by the State Board of
Pharmacy, as well as meeting the functions of a PIC as designated by the State
Board of Pharmacy
- Maintain registry access for all applicable REMS programs.
- Ensures appropriate inventory management of all pharmaceutical drugs, especially
controlled drug inventory practices.
- Complete insurance audits in a timely manner in conjunction with Director of
Pharmacy
- Exercise supervision of applicable pharmacy staff at their pharmacy location
according to COFMC policy and procedure (evaluations, competencies, coaching,
etc.)
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
ORGANIZATION:
- Exhibits enthusiasm, a positive attitude, and professionalism in the workplace.
- Handles personal conflict and works through it at the lowest possible level (first with
party/parties involved, then, if necessary, with 3rd party mediation)
- Displays a friendly manner and is easy to approach.
- Maintains a neat, clean, well-groomed, appearance and dresses in accordance with
the dress code policy.
- Leaves personal problems out of the workplace.
- Treats all co-workers with dignity and respect.
- Abstains from gossip in the workplace.
- Arrives on time and works through designated hours.

- Takes initiative to identify skill development needs.
