Leader In Training (full-time)

$14 - $17 per hour

The Buckle

Summary The Leader in Training (LIT) and Floor Leader’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement: “To create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” The position performs a variety of sales, merchandising, and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning). Works directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates, and provide leadership. Compensation & Benefits Pay range: $14–$17/hr. The range is the budgeted amount; final offers depend on skill set, experience, location, qualifications, and other factors. For sales positions, Buckle pays a base rate plus commission on sales. The range listed is the estimated base rate plus commission. Responsibilities Sales Generation and Guest Service Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service. Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise. Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on Guest needs and desires. Anticipate and fulfill Guest’s needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobe experience. Demonstrate product using product knowledge and sales education, sharing with Team. Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, payment and exchange policies, and security practices. Remain consistent on personal sales and look for opportunities to impact teammates’ presentations with the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG). Achieve personal sales‑per‑hour, average sales, and total net sales goals set by Store Management. Provide legendary service in Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register area. Know exchange and return procedures for Guests and turn them into show‑making opportunities. Fill out and use the Sales Presentation Guide daily to accomplish goals. Meet or exceed performance standards in all Buckle business builders and guest loyalty (fit appointments, Buckle credit card, guest connect). Investigate inventory expansion through Inventory Manager, advanced product search, iPad apps. Build good Guest relationships to develop a client‑based business. Lead with show‑making, excellent customer service, and attentiveness. Recognize and communicate Guest Levels with the Team. Ask business‑driven and show‑making questions to Manager, Team Leaders and Teammates. Coachable – allows Manager to educate them in sales presentation. Consistently perform leadership actions and maintain high standards even without Manager presence. Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development Consistently recognize recruiting opportunities by using Jobs & Careers cards, email referrals and Teammate Recommend. Develop skills and lead, direct, motivate and educate new teammates to meet Buckle’s accountability, shift orientation, Loss Prevention and sales presentation standards daily. Maintain a positive attitude, creating a positive floor culture. Demonstrate personal dress code to encourage and coach teammates on the latest fashion. Participate in daily setup, training, impact and review while using the Performance Tracker. Motivate teammates to initiate and complete daily tasks. Coach and influence results of denim show‑making and denim fit cards through teammates and Guests. Create and develop results in the department; balance DM actions; complete mid‑week check‑in. During segment, demonstrate leadership: awareness of Guests, involve them with product, be vocal and update fellow leader and Team, get Guest names, cooperate between guys/girls side. Visual Merchandise Management Own and influence product through zone ownership: product knowledge, placement, passion, preference, weekly checklist, life cycle, track results. Assign Zones and projects to teammates daily with a specific learning goal. Ensure teammates follow visual standards, visual library and weekly visual checklist with urgency and accountability. Execute new tools and videos that apply to zone ownership; take initiative in zone ownership questions. Recognize merchandising opportunities from freight to floor; communicate recommendations and solutions to Store Manager. Give informational and influential store tours. Ensure sales floor consistently sized and new freight appropriately displayed. Operations Work a flexible schedule: mornings, evenings, weekends, day of/day after Thanksgiving and Christmas, based on store and business needs. Use planner, complete Opening and Closing Checklists. Watch for security risks and thefts; know prevention or handling. Follow Loss Prevention guidelines, daily bag and purse checks. Execute and teach POS procedures. Handle calls from Corporate Office appropriately. Know Buckle guidelines for returns and exchanges. Maintain positive attitude with challenging guests or teammates. Understand and execute policies on payments, exchanges, and Loss Prevention. Navigate and execute all home‑page tools. Give guidance and feedback to all non‑sales positions. Complete scheduled shifts and cover shifts when needed. Provide feedback to Store Manager and Leadership Team on merchandise handling concerns. Communicate policy violations and concerns to Store Manager, District Manager, HR timely and confidentially. Keep store clean, organized, shoppable, fulfilling Buckle’s mission. Apply Buckle’s Code of Ethics and all policies, procedures, handbooks. Supervisory and Leadership Comfortable giving and receiving feedback from peers and Management. Supportive of Leadership. Promote personal and store growth. Maintain professional, mature and stable relationships with teammates. Fulfill mission through high customer service and positive team spirit. Handle special projects and other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related retail experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Physical Demands Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, balance, jump, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. Occasional sitting. Must lift and maneuver 50 lbs. Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, focus adjustment. Work Environment Retail store setting; moderate noise level.
