Certified Nurse Assistant PRN

The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) provides direct patient care and supportive service under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The CNA performs delegated tasks to assist patients with daily living activities, monitors vital signs, monitors patient's intake and output and ensures patient comfort and safety according to the patient's plan of care while helping to maintain efficient unit operations.

Key duties and responsibilities include measuring and recording vital signs, performing routine clinical procedures, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, maintaining safe and organized patient rooms, assisting patients with mobility, responding promptly to call lights and requests for assistance, reporting findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to direct nursing staff, documenting necessary records in Electronic Health Record, using correct body mechanics when assisting with patient mobility, using budgeted supplies and equipment judiciously, ensuring a safe, supportive environment for patients and staff, seeking guidance and assistance from the assigned nurse when knowledge base and skill level are in question, supporting the efforts of the facility to improve engagement through hourly patient rounding, and performing other duties as assigned.

Professional requirements include modeling a commitment to the organization's vision/mission/values, presenting self in a professional manner, treating all patients equally in accordance with Patient Rights, responsible for personal attendance and punctuality, maintaining Kansas Nurse Aide Certificate and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification in good standing, completing annual competencies, in-service and educational opportunities as required by organization, attending 75% of staff meeting opportunities, and completing in-services and educational opportunities as requested.

Qualifications, education, experience and ability include demonstrating eligibility for employment in the United States, high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required, current certification as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) in the state of Kansas, one year of CNA experience in an acute care facility or with acute care patients, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 60 days of hire, excellent communication, organization, and multitasking skills, strong attention to detail and accuracy, professional customer service skills and compassionate demeanor, demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care as well as basic computer skills to meet documentation standards, orthopedic, neurological or critical care experience preferred.

Environmental and physical requirements include working in a temperature-controlled environment, ability to lift to 50 pounds using proper lifting technique several times during their shift, physical ability for long-term standing, occasional sitting, crouching, kneeling, frequent walking, reaching with reaching above head and below waist, job risks include exposure to blood and body fluids (high), contact with chemicals, and exposure to infectious disease, candidate must be able to read, write and speak English fluently, have cognitive skills for math, reading, filing and sterile technique skills, communication skills to interact with employees, patients, families and physicians, vision for near, far & mid-range accommodation, hearing for low, medium, and high pitch.
