CYP Child and Youth Program (Teen Coordinator)

Summary Child and Youth Programs (CYP) Teen Coordinator plans, organizes, and leads supervised social, recreational, and educational programs for youth ages 13‑18. Responsibilities include managing clubs, special events, trips, and classes to meet developmental and leisure needs. Operating with minimal oversight under the Youth Director, the incumbent’s work is evaluated on compliance and program success. The role adapts to small, medium, or large YP facilities, with potential duties in the CDC. Responsibilities Programming : Assist in developing and supervising age‑appropriate programs; create daily activity plans that include arts, music, drama, technology, and special projects; implement DoN and OPNAV programs such as BGCA and 4‑H; organize special interest activities, dances, and trips; design and execute fitness and sports programs; recruit and train coaches; submit monthly calendars and maintain participation and payment records. Indoor/Outdoor Environment : Ensure physical spaces are safe, adequate, inviting and reflect teen interests; prepare facilities and verify safety requirements; secure, inventory, and store supplies; identify and report hazards; remove compromised items. Interactions and Relationships : Foster a positive climate that encourages development; model sportsman‑like conduct; use positive guidance techniques; interact professionally with parents, command personnel, volunteers and employees to resolve issues. Supervision of Children and Youth : Provide strict care, oversight, and accountability for participants; enforce rules regarding dress code, conduct, and equipment; supervise a staff of at least three. Outreach : Publicize upcoming activities; conduct outreach in local housing areas; facilitate the youth sponsorship program to integrate DoD youth through peer‑to‑peer support and newcomer orientations. Personnel Management : Supervise staff; initiate personnel actions under the Youth Director; establish performance metrics; manage staff schedules; partner with training specialists to support credentialing; advocate EEO objectives. Compliance : Ensure safety, security, and DoD Child and Youth program regulations are met; act as mandatory reporter; support grant writing; assume duties of Youth Director when absent. Additional Responsibilities : Assist with CDC operations when required; conduct EEO and compliance audits to keep staff credentialing and safety logs current. Qualifications Knowledge of developmentally appropriate programs for 13‑18 year olds. Knowledge of child and youth development principles and techniques. Knowledge of a variety of teen programming activities. Knowledge of federal and state laws on child abuse prevention. Skill in program planning, organizing, and employee scheduling. Skill working with military families and understanding of military lifestyles (preferred). Ability to supervise others, lead, and interact with youth. Ability to safeguard and account for monies and equipment. Ability to maintain records and reports. Strong written and oral communication skills in English. Requirements Must be 18 years of age or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Complete required training certificates and maintain certifications or credentials required by federal, state or national accreditation institutions used as part of DoD's Child and Youth Programs. Must undergo mandatory pre‑employment and random drug testing; a positive test results in mandatory removal. Must pass a mandatory physical, provide immunization evidence, and be free of communicable diseases. Proof of education must be provided upon application. Must successfully pass an E‑Verify employment check; any discrepancies must be resolved. Must meet federal suitability requirements, including a completed background investigation. Preferred Qualifications Either a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, Military School‑Age (MSA) credential, or equivalent AND at least three years of experience demonstrating competency in developmentally appropriate programming; OR 2‑year degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or a related field, AND at least two years of full‑time experience working with children or youth; OR 4‑year degree in any of the above fields AND at least one year of experience working with children or youth (a minimum 2‑year degree is preferred). #J-18808-Ljbffr Navy Region Southwest Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR)
