Shifts Medical Assistant Shift Availability: Candidates must be willing to work between the hours of 8:00 AM – 10:00 PM, including coverage for a combination of the following shifts as needed: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM, 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM, 8:00 AM – 10:00 PM. Overview The Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider. Responsibilities include managing the check‑in and registration process, interviewing patients, measuring vital signs, drawing and collecting blood samples, preparing treatment rooms, and maintaining patient charts. Responsibilities Conduct patient registration, including securing required paperwork, insurance documentation, and verification of eligibility. Process co‑pays and schedule patient appointments for the assigned center. Coordinate provider referrals to assigned specialists. Answer patient questions regarding their care and keep them informed of their status. Inform technical staff of patient flow. Prepare patients for examination by conducting interviews, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit. Perform preliminary physical tests (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) for vital signs and report critical cases to the provider. Conduct point‑of‑care testing as needed (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG) and provide patient information to the provider. Stock supplies and maintain exam rooms, front desk, and reception area; ensure providers have needed medical supplies. Maintain order sheets to keep supply inventory levels, and regularly check expiration dates on supplies. Manage medical records and scan charts to patient files. Answer phone calls, collect and sort daily incoming and outgoing postal correspondence. Maintain a clean reception area. Conduct courtesy call‑backs for patient follow‑up. Perform opening and closing duties, including cashing out, end‑of‑day communication, and securing the building. Follow operating instructions to perform daily controls and calibration of equipment; maintain Quality Assurance/Quality Control logs, troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma – required. Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program – preferred. One year of Medical Assistant experience – required. Front Desk experience – preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – required at time of hire (obtained through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association). Certification Requirements (for candidates with less than three years of experience) CCMA – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA). CMA – Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA or CHP). RMA – Registered Medical Assistant (AMT, AAH or ARMA). NCMA – National Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT). NRCMA – Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP). Certification Alternatives Experience‑Based Pathway – 3+ years of Medical Assistant work experience AND 1+ year of experience in a Hospital, Emergency Room, or Urgent Care setting. Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing, LPN, or RN. EMT – Emergency Medical Technician (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians). Paramedic (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians). CNA – Certified Nursing Assistant. Additional Requirements CPOE (Computerized Provider Order Entry) certification – must be obtained within two weeks of start date. Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic Medical Assistant duties. Ability to type quickly and basic computer knowledge. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Detail oriented, able to rely on experience and judgment to perform a variety of tasks and accomplish goals. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact and treat all persons with fairness, respect, and sensitivity to cultural/social differences.
