Part-Time EMT Basic

The Dougherty County EMS Department is hiring on a continuous basis for Part-Time EMT Basic. The purpose of this position is to provide emergency medical treatment to sick or injured persons. This class works under general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Essential tasks include responding to calls for emergency assistance, operating emergency vehicles, providing emergency medical care to patients, maintaining ambulance and equipment, assessing health status of patients, executing physician's orders, completing forms and reports, participating in public relations and community education programs, and driving ambulance to the scene and to the hospital in a safe manner.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED equivalent and being at least 21 years old.

Physical demands involve medium to heavy work that includes walking, standing, stooping, lifting, pushing, and exerting force on a regular and recurring basis. The work environment involves exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme temperatures, noise levels, vibration, fumes, traffic, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, radiation, and disease/pathogens.

Special certifications and licenses required include a State of Georgia EMT License, Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, and a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

Candidates must be able to lift 180 pounds from the ground to the stretcher with assistance from a partner. Successful applicants for employment must pass a drug and/or alcohol screening and pass background investigation.
