Job Title: Reading Interventionist (Elementary) FLSA Status: Exempt Days of Work: 190 Days _____________________________________________________________________ GENERAL SUMMARY The Reading Interventionist provides targeted instructional support to elementary students who are performing below grade level in reading and literacy. This position is responsible for planning and delivering small-group, evidence-based reading interventions, analyzing student data, monitoring progress, and collaborating with teachers to strengthen literacy outcomes. The Reading Interventionist works closely with school leadership to implement effective Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III supports to accelerate student achievement in reading. Reports to building principal. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned) Instruction & Intervention Provide targeted small-group reading instruction based on identified student needs. Implement evidence-based literacy intervention programs with fidelity. Support foundational reading skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including multilingual learners and students with reading deficits. Utilize district-adopted instructional materials, assessments, and intervention tools effectively. Collaborate with classroom teachers to reinforce Tier I instruction and align intervention with core curriculum. Data Analysis & Progress Monitoring Analyze student data from benchmark assessments, diagnostic tools, and classroom performance to identify students in need of intervention. Monitor and document student progress regularly using district-approved systems. Use data to adjust instruction, regroup students, and refine intervention strategies. Participate in MTSS/RTI meetings and contribute to intervention planning and decision-making. Collaboration & Communication Meet regularly with teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators to discuss student progress and instructional strategies. Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and provide strategies to support reading development at home when appropriate. Support school-wide literacy initiatives and contribute to a culture of reading achievement. Assist with professional development related to literacy instruction and intervention strategies as needed. Professional Responsibilities Maintain confidentiality of student records and adhere to district policies and procedures. Participate in ongoing professional development to strengthen literacy instruction and intervention practices. Engage in school-wide initiatives, data cycles, and instructional planning sessions. Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with students, staff, and families. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or district leadership. JOB SPECIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field required; Master's degree preferred. Valid South Carolina teaching certification required. Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level. Experience providing reading instruction and/or intervention support. Preferred: Experience with MTSS/RTI frameworks. Training in evidence-based reading practices (e.g., LETRS, Orton-Gillingham, Science of Reading). Experience using literacy assessment tools (e.g., i-Ready, MAP, DIBELS, or similar). Experience working with multilingual learners. Knowledge & Skills Strong knowledge of foundational reading skills and literacy development. Ability to analyze and interpret student data to inform instruction. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students and motivate struggling readers. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Commitment to equity and closing achievement gaps. Working Conditions School-based environment with movement between classrooms and instructional spaces. Minimal exposure to environmental hazards.
