Imagine helping students discover confidence, resilience, and teamwork through structured recreation. As the Campus Recreation & Activities Specialist, you design safe, inclusive experiences, mentor students one-on-one, and keep the program running smoothly—from schedules and reservations to transportation and reporting.

• Model the social and professional behaviors that drive success; teach healthy stress-reduction and workforce-readiness habits.
• Support BMS and/or SCC initiatives that promote appropriate community conduct, appearance, and behavior.
• Oversee on-site fitness and recreation for diverse skill levels; maintain a safe, healthy environment.
• Keep self-directed activities aligned with established recreation plans.
• Increase participation by refining procedures and removing barriers.
• Coordinate recurring activities (basketball, volleyball, softball): reservations, transportation, logistics, participant information, and payment collection.
• Evaluate and recommend enhancements to programs and facilities.
• Contribute to center-wide and volunteer-sponsored initiatives through special projects.
• Hold individual check-ins to address day-to-day challenges tied to recreation and fitness.
• Provide practical guidance and solutions to routine issues without imposing personal values.
• Stage facilities, equipment, and supplies so every event is ready to go.
• Operate government vehicles to shuttle students to off-site events.
• Reserve spaces, manage payments, and ensure students understand facility, equipment, and activity safety requirements.
• Enforce all safety rules consistently and thoroughly.
• Prepare and submit monthly recreation and related reports.
• Communicate effectively; answer questions; provide information, inspections, and counsel.
• Maintain order; identify social, behavioral, or disciplinary concerns; collaborate with center staff on complex cases.
• Coach sportsmanship, cooperation, and positive group dynamics.
• Work independently on recurring responsibilities with minimal instruction.
• Demonstrate high-level interpersonal skill during difficult or hostile interactions; remain calm and professional.
• Motivate students who may initially resist leadership or direction to participate.
• Participate in and instruct physically demanding group sports when needed.
• Driving may be required.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Complete all required training per government and management guidance.
• Deliver results on time and cost-effectively.
• Communicate clearly in writing and speech with all levels of staff and students.

• Produce accurate, timely departmental work.

• Work safely; follow safety policies and use PPE when needed.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of experience working with youth.
• Water Safety training obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to obtain a CDL within 90 days of employment (if applicable for the position).
• Obtain and maintain DOT/CDL medical certification (if applicable for the position).
• Successfully pass and participate in the mandatory DOT/CDL drug and alcohol testing program (if applicable)
• Successfully pass any background check and/drug test required on the contract.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record (or ability to obtain and maintain).

• Associate’s degree in counseling, social work, rehabilitation, education, recreation, or a related area.
• Experience in a school or park system recreation program.
• CDL.

Work takes place in varied on- and off-center locations with changing noise levels. You’ll collaborate with site staff and students daily via phone, email, and in person. At times, you may face conflict; teamwork and professionalism are essential.

This is an active role requiring extended periods of standing and participation in activities. You must be able to stand, walk, run, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl, and talk or hear; frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, equipment, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally more. Vision needs include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
