Nuclear Medicine Technologist, Staten Island - Cancer Center

Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, Staten Island – Cancer Center. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for performing medically prescribed nuclear medicine procedures, working under general direction. Job Responsibilities Demonstrates knowledge of the organization’s service standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties. Operates hospital and radiology information systems related to nuclear medicine, correctly entering patient information and documenting examination times in the RIS. Assesses patient information and status, follows appropriate procedures, verifies patient identity using wristband and verbal confirmation, and obtains consent when necessary. Prepares radiopharmaceutical doses using proper procedures and dose calibrators, verifies labeling and activity, and ensures patient safety. Positions patient and equipment, adjusts settings for optimal imaging, and analyzes data to report results to the physician. Solves problems during examinations, adjusts protocols, and confers with other technologists as needed. Assists physicians during procedures, completes examinations efficiently, and ensures cleanliness of the procedure area. Implements non‑imaging procedures and processes body fluid specimens according to standard practice. Manages radiopharmacy tasks: prepares doses, performs wipe tests, monitors packaging, and assembles generators for radio‑isotope production. Controls radiation safety: disposes of waste, follows safety guidelines, performs contamination surveys, and reports incidents. Performs quality control: evaluates imaging systems, calibrates dose calibrators, and maintains quality control procedures. Maintains documentation records for quality control, dose preparation, and waste disposal. Operates laboratory equipment, reports malfunctions, and ensures proper use of printers and peripheral devices. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associate’s Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or related health field for employees hired after August 1 2016. Nuclear Medicine permit issued by the New York State Department of Health for new graduates. Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB). Strong communication, problem‑solving, and customer‑service skills; basic computer skills including Microsoft Office. Thorough knowledge of nuclear medicine equipment. Preferred Qualifications Completion of a bachelor’s degree in nuclear medicine technology. Required Licenses Nuclear Medicine Technologist License, Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) certification, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists license. NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $108,907.60 – $121,854.60 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
