Job Title: RN II-L&D (Mandatory Call) Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Variable Shift Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week - rotating shifts Experience: - Minimum of two years of experience in Labor & Delivery is required. License: - Current RN license in the state of practice is required. Certifications: - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor is required. - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from an approved vendor is required. - Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification from an approved vendor is required. - Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course is required. Must-Have: - Competence to assess fetal and maternal well-being, amniotic fluid status, and recognize and manage abnormalities. - Ability to effectively manage pain control in the laboring patient and support alternative pain control methods. - Knowledge in assisting with epidural catheter placement and monitoring fetal and maternal status. - Strong documentation skills for all nursing care provided. - Commitment to safety and quality control checks within the unit. Description: The Labor and Delivery Nurse is responsible for planning and providing nursing care to patients and their families during antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. This includes managing emergency situations and circulating for surgical procedures. The role involves supervising and delegating care responsibilities to ancillary personnel. This position is represented by a nursing association. The nurse performs physical and psychosocial assessments that demonstrate knowledge of age, cultural differences, and support for fetal demise. They initiate multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team. The nurse demonstrates appropriate clinical judgment in managing perinatal emergencies, including but not limited to crash C-sections and precipitous deliveries. They are competent in assessing laboring patients’ pain and providing appropriate pain control. The nurse performs education for patients and families across all stages of the perinatal and postpartum period. Timely completion of legible and accurate documentation of all nursing care provided is essential. The nurse must consistently perform necessary unit-specific safety and quality control checks. Other job-related duties may be assigned as needed. The organization requires that all associates receive all required vaccinations as a condition of employment.
