Assistant Research Professor, Internal Medicine (Career Track) (PhD) (College of Medicine-Phoenix) Department: COM Phx Internal Medicine Location: Greater Phoenix Area The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix invites talented academic scientists for a career faculty position. Applicants will have expertise in tissue procurement and patient-derived organoid technology. The role will spend 90% of time on research activities, including collaborative team-based science, service to investigations of the department, directing tissue procurement efforts, and training students and technicians. Candidates will participate in scholarly work, teaching, and service, and qualify for appointment at the rank of assistant professor. They will meet the College and University career‑track faculty guidelines. Responsibilities Direct tissue procurement effort for the Department Develop processes, procedures and a collaborative research program in the field of 3D organoid biology Expand collaborative efforts with University of Arizona biomedical scientists and physician scientists in the development of organoids relevant to cancer, lung disease, and liver disease Develop human precision cut lung and liver slice model systems Perform tissue histology, staining, and quantification Organize tissue bank collection of FPPE, fresh frozen, and organoid samples Participate in training of students and technicians Participate as a productive member of the Department and the College through impactful scholarly work and good citizenship Additional duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Hold a PhD in a related field of study from an accredited institution Have post‑doctoral training and/or experience commensurate with appointment at the rank of assistant professor Demonstrate scholarly accomplishment in research Preferred Qualifications Experience in cancer, lung, or liver organoid development Current funding in the area of 3D organoid biology Experience with melanoma, pancreatic cancer, GI cancers, or lung cancer Experience investigating fibrotic diseases and drug development approaches Experience studying fibroblast biology and/or cancer‑associated fibroblasts (CAFs) Benefits Outstanding UA benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance plans; life insurance and disability programs; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; UA/ASU/NAU tuition reduction for the employee and qualified family members; retirement plans; access to UA recreation and cultural activities; and more.
