Surgical Technologist - Per Diem

divh2Surgical Technician/h2pThe Surgical Technician works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse in delivering safe and effective care to patients in the intraoperative period./pulliAssists the RN in planning patient care by appropriately selecting supplies and equipment needed for cases./liliChecks that instrumentation and equipment are in working order./liliMaintains aseptic technique throughout set up and surgical intervention./liliShows awareness of patient condition and special needs./liliAnticipates surgeons needs during intraoperative phase./liliMaintains patient safety by adhering to fire prevention strategies./liliMaintains patients safety by adhering to safe medication handling strategies./liliCommunicates equipment/instrumentation issues to the appropriate personnel (CSS, Materials Manager, AHN, Director). Performs down time assignments (checking outdates, stocking, rooms, picking cases, etc.)./liliPerforms counts according to hospital policy./liliInitiates appropriate procedure for incorrect counts./liliCorrectly handles and identifies surgical specimens./liliSafely disposes of biohazardous material./liliActively participates in room turnover between cases./li/ulpstrongQualifications:/strong/pulliHigh School diploma or equivalent required; Completion of accredited surgical technician program required/liliNew York State Surgical Technician Certification through the NBSTSA required./liliBLS from American Heart Association required./liliPrior surgical technician experience preferred./liliMust be computer-literate. Must be able to read and write basic English./li/ul/div
