State and Local Senior Tax Associate

Senior Tax Associate – State and Local Tax (SALT) Team This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse client base and contribute to the growth and success of our Grand Rapids, Michigan-based SALT practice. The position is available in Troy, Grand Rapids, Houston, Duluth, Rochester, Birmingham, Orlando, or Clarksville offices. Responsibilities Prepare or review state and local sales tax returns, personal property tax returns, C‑corporation, S‑corporation, and Partnership income returns Conduct research and provide technical advice on state and local tax issues Assist clients with state and local tax audits, including audit defense and negotiation Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize state and local tax liabilities Stay current on state and local tax laws and regulations and communicate changes to clients and team members Research technical matters related to state and local tax Mentor and train staff members, providing guidance and support in their professional development Collaborate with other departments to ensure comprehensive client service Qualifications Bachelor's and/or master’s degree in accounting, taxation, or a related field CPA or CPA track preferred, but not required 2 years of experience in state and local tax, preferably in a public accounting or consulting firm Knowledge of state and local tax laws and regulations Excellent, analytical, problem‑solving, and research skills, and written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CCH Axcess/GoSystem Tax, Avalara/Vertext/TaxJar, or TaxScribe, as relevant Located within commuting distance of one of the Michigan, Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Florida or Tennessee offices.
