Location: Portland Metro Area (Onsite)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
Compensation: $65,000-$78,000 annually
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

The Payroll Specialist will play a key role in processing complex, multi-state payroll while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and exceptional internal customer service. This individual will support payroll operations for a large employee population across multiple states and union environments, while partnering closely with the Payroll Manager and payroll team.

Key Responsibilities

• Process high-volume payroll for approximately 1,300 employees across multiple states on a weekly basis.
• Audit timekeeping and payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Review payroll records and identify discrepancies, making corrections as needed.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
• Assist with payroll tax reporting and related compliance requirements.
• Prepare payroll reports and provide analysis for management review.
• Reconcile payroll-related accounts and assist with month-end and year-end processes.
• Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve issues in a timely, professional manner.
• Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive employee and payroll information.
• Collaborate with internal teams to support payroll operations and process improvements.
• Communicate payroll concerns and escalate issues when appropriate.

Qualifications

Required

• 2+ years of payroll experience.
• Experience processing high-volume, multi-state payroll.
• Strong understanding of payroll compliance and payroll best practices.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other payroll-related software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
• Team-oriented mindset with a strong work ethic.

Preferred

• Experience processing union payroll.
• Experience working in complex payroll environments with multiple jurisdictions.
• 5+ years of payroll, accounting, or related experience.
