Alden Estates of Shorewood is a FIVE STAR Short Term Rehabilitation and Long Term Skilled Nursing Facility!

We are looking for an RN / LPN for our Desk Secretary Nurse role!

This position will be issued a work laptop with a dedicated work email address.

This role will be responsible for but not limited to:

· Scheduling patient’s appointments and transportations, transporting patients to/from lobby if Medcar/family/patient can’t

· Obtain authorization for Medicaid patients for transportation, complete medical necessity form for Medicare as needed

· Assist with completing packet of paperwork to accompany patient to appointment

· Assist therapy with any need change in weight bearing status

· Schedule X-rays or any images needed for Ortho follow ups

· Order House Stocks

· Provide Floor Coverage as needed, part of on-call floor rotation

· Assisting the floor nurses by taking nurse to nurse report for new admissions as needed

· Entering in orders for new admissions

· Scanning other documents, DC summaries, ambulance reports, after visit notes, appt notes, etc. to medical records

· Organizing, stocking, removing expired medications and maintaining cleanliness of the medication rooms

· Communicating as needed with families and patients

· Answering the phone as needed and routing calls appropriately/taking messages

· Communicating with MDs/NPs -entering orders as applicable

· Following up on labs / radiology results as needed

· Maintaining a neat and organized Nurses station

· Distribution and ordering of office supplies for yourself and the nurses stations

· Auditing the crash carts for expired items, signing off daily

· Signing off temperature log for Medication room and soiled utility fridges

I. Job Summary
Assisting the Director of Nursing Services in the planning, organizing, directing of the day to day functions of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations and facility policies. The objective is to ensure the highest degree of quality of care is maintained at all times.
II. Qualifications
a. Must possess current CPR certificate
b. Must be able to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
c. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
d. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with customers, family members, visitors, personnel, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
e. Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and willingness to work harmoniously with personnel.
f. Must be personable, enthusiastic and resourceful.
III. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
a. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
b. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
c. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately.
d. Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with others.
e. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
f. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people.
IV. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
a. Review the departments Policy and Procedure Manual.
b. Assist clinical nursing staff on entering MD orders in a timely manner.
c. Assist clinical nursing staff with preparing for New Admissions; take Nurse to Nurse report, assist with preparing the chart with Diagnosis, Allergies, entering Standing Batch orders.
d. Plan, conduct and participate in In-service Education Programs.
e. Assist with setting up appointments as ordered per MD. Assist with communication between families, resident, MD, clinical staff. Assist with setting up transportation as needed.
f. Assist with follow up on daily lab results; communication between, MD, clinical staff, immediate supervisor for any concerns.
g. Assist with clinical staff on ordering house stock medications. Organization of medication room, removal of expired medications, maintaining necessary supplies as needed.
h. Perform administrative duties such as answering telephone calls, filing/scanning medical records, completing forms, completing required audits, as necessary.
i. Assist and maintains general organization of nursing units.
j. Maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis; including a calm environment throughout the department.
