Orientation and Mobility Specialist

**School-Based Orientation & Mobility Specialist | Tumwater, WA | Part-Time** Hello, O&M Specialists! Ampersand Therapy is hiring a part-time **Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist** to support students with visual impairments in **Tumwater Washington**. We are a woman- and therapist-founded company that values collaboration and meaningful, student-centered work. **Position Details*** Location: Tumwater, WA* Schedule: 2 days per week* In-person, school-based role* Provide evaluations, direct instruction, and consultation for students with visual impairments **Responsibilities*** Conduct O&M evaluations and identify students’ short- and long-term needs.* Teach students to travel safely and confidently in familiar and unfamiliar environments while building independence.* Collaborate with teachers of students with visual impairments on functional vision assessments related to travel.* Provide instruction and support aligned with each student’s IEP.* Consult with families, teachers, school staff, and peers on strategies that support student independence and safety.* Monitor progress and maintain evaluation reports, IEP documentation, progress notes, and other required records.* Provide training to school staff and families on students’ O&M needs.* Collaborate with the multidisciplinary school team. **Requirements*** Bachelor’s degree in Education; master’s degree in Special Education preferred* Valid Washington State Education Staff Associate certificate with the required Special Education endorsement and qualifications to serve as an O&M instructor* Valid Washington State driver’s license* First Aid and CPR certification* Ability to complete required criminal background clearance* Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills **Benefits & Perks*** W-2 employment with liability insurance included* 401(k) with company match* Reimbursement opportunities for licensure, continuing education, and professional expenses* Support from a therapist-founded team that understands school-based work We’d love to connect with you and share more about this opportunity!We're a small business, local to many of the areas we hire in, and are proud to be women, minority, and therapist-founded and run.We began our career working in schools both as district and contract employees.
