Stationary Engineer

Job Description: Summary: The Stationary Engineer operates and maintains mechanical equipment such as boiler feed pumps, circulating pumps, water treatment equipment, air compressors, generators, motors, turbines, and natural gas fired steam boilers to generate steam and electricity for campus buildings. The Stationary Engineer is in direct charge of all stationary engines and mechanical equipment and responsible for the continuous uninterrupted (24 hour / 7 day) safe and efficient operation of all systems and equipment. Participates in the maintenance, repair, rebuild, and new installation of equipment. Makes competent decisions regarding normal operations of the Powerhouse as well as emergency situations that may occur. Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities: Provides reliable steam and electrical supply to the campus by monitoring operating conditions, recording data, adjusting controls, inspecting and maintaining equipment. Maintains continuous operation of Powerhouse under various load and seasonal conditions, to assure the safe and efficient operations of all equipment. Performs water titration tests and adds appropriate chemical additives into treatment tanks to treat boiler waterside surfaces and distribution condensate return line. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements: Education and/or Experience: High school diploma and one - three years verifiable experience operating and or maintaining boilers and boiler room equipment. Minimum requirement of a current Third-Class Ohio Stationary Steam Engineer's License Skills: Strong problem solving and technical skills. Customer Service mindset. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively independently and as a team member. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with staff members and employees of outside contractors/service companies. Knowledge: Uses computerized maintenance management system to provide work order status to customers. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret charts and graphs. Abilities: Acknowledge and comply with all departmental SOP, safety, and college requirements. Strong professional ethics and discretion with an attitude of respect for all employed at the College of Wooster.
