Garage Underwriter – Texas (In-Office) Seeking a skilled and experienced Garage Underwriter to join a Commercial Lines team. This role involves evaluating, pricing, structuring, and placing garage-related risks while collaborating with carrier underwriters to negotiate competitive and compliant coverage solutions. As a Garage Underwriter, you will manage an existing portfolio of garage business while driving new production, ensuring revenue growth, profitability, and market development within this niche segment. This position offers significant autonomy, direct visibility to leadership, and the opportunity to make a measurable impact on the organization’s success. Compensation Package Annual Salary: $53,000 – $63,000 (commensurate with experience and qualifications) Incentives: Performance-based incentives tied to production and portfolio growth Benefits: Eligible for company-sponsored benefits in accordance with company policy Responsibilities Production & Underwriting Evaluate, quote, and bind garage risks, including repair shops, dealerships, towing operations, body shops, and automotive service centers. Analyze exposures, financial indicators, operational controls, and loss history to determine eligibility, pricing, and coverage structure. Develop comprehensive coverage programs, including Garage Liability, Garagekeepers, Property, Inland Marine, and Umbrella policies. Serve as the primary production driver for the garage segment, maintaining a consistent monthly new business cadence. Balance competitiveness with underwriting discipline to ensure long-term portfolio profitability. Build and actively manage a specialized niche book of business within the Texas garage marketplace. Carrier & Market Management Develop and maintain strong relationships with carrier underwriters. Negotiate pricing, coverage enhancements, deductibles, and policy terms to optimize placement outcomes. Identify optimal carrier markets and expand underwriting capacity. Stay informed on carrier appetite changes, underwriting guidelines, and emerging market opportunities. Portfolio Management & Revenue Growth Manage renewal strategies to improve retention, pricing adequacy, and coverage alignment. Monitor book performance, including premium growth trends, retention metrics, and loss performance. Identify cross-sell opportunities to enhance account protection and revenue stability. Support the long‑term profitability of the garage portfolio. Operational Execution & Compliance Maintain accurate and timely documentation within agency management systems. Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal procedures. Coordinate with service team members to ensure smooth onboarding and ongoing account servicing. Support reporting initiatives related to production, retention, and portfolio performance. Qualifications / Requirements Active Texas Property & Casualty license or ability to obtain promptly. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in commercial lines insurance with a focus on garage, transportation, or automotive service risks. Experience working directly with carrier underwriters and navigating underwriting guidelines. Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills.
