Staff Accountant

AVR, a McNamara Company, is looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. Key responsibilities include accounts payable, maintaining the general ledger, supporting month and year-end closing, assisting with account reconciliations, processing journal entries, and ensuring compliance with financial reporting requirements. This position plays a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting overall financial health for the organization. Position Description Position Description: Support with day-to-day accounts payable. Prepare and file sales tax and other regulatory returns in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines for multiple entities. Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including assisting with monthly account reconciliations and resolving any discrepancies. Prepare and post journal entries ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP. Provide billing and cash receipts recording, and month-end accounting for various divisions. Ensure accounting records are organized, complete, and compliant. Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned. Position Requirements Requirements: Associate degree in Accounting or Finance required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry. Solid understanding of accounting principles (GAAP). Proficiency with accounting software (e.g. Viewpoint, or similar ERP). Experience with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and other functions). Knowledge of job costing and construction project accounting is a plus. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to collaborate across departments and with external vendors/clients.
