The Custodial team is an essential part of the Sioux Falls School District. Our goal is to create a safe and healthy environment for SFSD students. We are looking to add flexible and dedicated members to our team that are motivated to help achieve and maintain our goal.

This is for FTE that allows you to stay permanently at Jefferson High School and not be drafted out to move into another position or building.

REQUIREMENTS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to drive to more than once location during a work shift. Good physical health including ability to lift 75 pounds, climb to high and difficult places and work at those places. Must be able to pass pre-employment physical if new employee. Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, standing and walking. Repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. Frequent bending, carrying, hearing, lifting, and stooping. Occasional climbing and crawling.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Good attendance. Ability to communicate and follow written and oral direction in English with or without a communication device. Ability to demonstrate recognition of equipment malfunction. Positive attitude towards people with whom one works, ability to work cooperatively and willingness to accept instructions and training. Works modified assignments as necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

1. Maintains cleanliness of District buildings including but not limited to:
   1. Sweeps, dusts, arranges furniture, empties trash and pencil sharpeners, cleans white boards and chalk boards.
   2. Washes walls, woodwork, and windows.
   3. Cleans and polishes metal surfaces.
   4. Cleans and maintains hard and soft surface floors.
   5. Wet mops and spot cleans hard and soft surface floors.
   6. Cleans, sanitizes, and deodorizes restrooms and locker rooms.
2. Assists in the maintenance of lawns, landscaping, concrete, blacktop surfaces, and playgrounds, including snow and ice removal of pedestrian walkways.
3. Operates heating, A/C, ventilation, electrical, and mechanical systems. Operations will be limited to turning equipment on/off and/or setting day/night cycles.
4. Assists in the setups and tear downs for school activities.
5. Observes and reports needed repair of equipment, furnishings, fixtures, building, and site.
6. Secures building rooms at the conclusion of shift.
7. Works a revised schedule and substitutes for other custodial staff when necessary.
8. Shares responsibility for holiday, extended-day, and weekend activities with other custodial staff.
9. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

PAY INFORMATION

Level GX - starting at $19.92 per hour

2026-2027 Custodial/Maintenance Salary Schedule

Pay day is the last working day of each month.

HOURS & FTE

1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week, 12 months

Monday through Friday, 3:30 pm to 12:00 am with a 30 minute unpaid break
