Job Title: Loan Accountant - Chatsworth

Overview:

The Loan Accountant is responsible for the accounting, reconciliation, financial reporting, and control activities associated with the loan portfolio. The position supports a diversified portfolio consisting of consumer loans, commercial and commercial real estate loans, loan participations purchased and sold, and loans originated for sale through secondary-market channels.

This position serves as a key liaison between Accounting, Lending, Loan Operations, Credit Administration, Secondary Marketing, Investments/ Treasury, and Financial Planning & Analysis and is responsible for ensuring that loan-related transactions are accurately recorded in accordance with US GAAP, regulatory reporting requirements, policies, and established internal controls.

The role also provides accounting and analytical support for CECL, delinquency and nonaccrual reporting, loan modifications, charge-offs and recoveries, deferred loan fees and costs, secondary-market activity, and investment accounting; also helps safeguard the organization’s financial integrity by ensuring loan transactions are recorded accurately, account reconciliations are completed timely, and exceptions are researched and resolved.

What You Will Do:

• Loan Accounting and Reconciliation: Record, review, and reconcile loan transactions, including payments, disbursements, adjustments, accruals, and related account activity, to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal policies and applicable requirements.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare and support monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting deliverables, including loan activity reports, interest schedules, aging reports, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for management review.
• Regulatory Compliance: Support compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements by maintaining accurate records and providing documentation for audits, examinations, and reviews.
• Exception Management: Research, investigate, and resolve loan-related discrepancies, variances, system exceptions, and reporting errors in a timely manner, escalating complex issues as appropriate.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Lending, Loan Operations, Accounting, Accounts Payable, and other internal teams to support accurate loan servicing, timely issue resolution, and efficient accounting processes.
• System and Process Support: Assist with loan accounting system maintenance, testing, enhancements, and process improvements to ensure systems and workflows support business needs, reporting accuracy, and control requirements.

Requirements

What We Are Looking For:

• Five plus+ years of experience in accounting, loan accounting, reconciliation, loan servicing, or a related financial operations function preferred. Experience with retail and commercial loan systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem -solving skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas and data analysis tools, and familiarity with accounting or financial systems required; experience with process improvement, controls, and reporting tools preferred.
• Working knowledge of general ledger, loan accounting, and core banking or loan servicing systems required. Ability to learn new systems, validate system-generated reports, and identify data or process issues that may affect accounting accuracy.
• Communicates clearly and professionally with accounting, lending, loan operations, and management teams, including the ability to explain reconciliation issues, reporting variances, and accounting information in a clear and timely manner.
• Builds effective working relationships across departments and works cooperatively with internal partners to resolve issues, support accurate reporting, and improve loan accounting processes.
• Demonstrates ownership of assigned responsibilities, follows through on deadlines, and maintains reliable, accurate work with strong attention to detail.
• Handles sensitive financial, borrower, and company information with professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
• Responds effectively to changing priorities, reporting deadlines, system updates, and process improvements while maintaining accuracy and composure.
• Maintains a service-oriented, solutions-focused approach and represents the accounting function with integrity, responsiveness, and respect.

Pay Grade Info :

The base pay range for this position is: $67k-83k annually
