Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 1-2 Years License: Required Certifications: BLS ACLS NIHSS (preferred) Must-Have: Traveler must pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival. Skills in titrating cardiac drips, some vasopressor titration, insulin drips, managing and pulling venous sheaths, central line management, tracheostomies, feeding tubes, Bipap, chest tubes, wound care, and blood products. Description: The unit has 25 beds. Patient types include respiratory failure, CVA, DKA, sepsis, post-surgery, and post-cardiac catheterization with intervention. The unit frequently monitors and intervenes for patients with ETOH withdrawal and IV drug abuse. Patient ratios are 1:3-4. The charge nurse may take a patient assignment. Phlebotomy is available in-house. The unit has a VAT team and a resource nurse available during the day. There is a hospitalist on call 24/7. The charting system used is an electronic medical record system. IV pumps used are Alaris. Medication dispensing is done through Pyxis. Travelers may float to other units as needed, specifically cardiac stepdown or medical-surgical units with ratios of 1:5-6. Weekend rotation is every other weekend. Staff will work 4 days one week and 3 days the next. Up to 7 days of time off may be approved but requires extending the contract for any full week. Only one weekend of RTO may be requested per 13-week contract. There are holiday expectations which include working 2 or 3 major holidays during the contract. The unit culture is diverse and has experience working with many travelers. Scrub color is pewter.
