Essential Duties Under supervision of a teacher/administrator, employees assist in developing and implementing programs, which promote positive relationships between parents, community representatives, and school personnel. The employee acts as liaison between parent and community groups, teachers and other employees of the San Francisco Unified School District for the purpose of providing information and developing a better understanding among these groups. The employee works with Instructional Aides and volunteers. Employee performs related duties as required. Some positions may require conversational and written skills in a specific language(s) other than English related to the needs of the assignment. An ability to translate and adapt materials to and from English into that language(s) may also be required. Some positions may require that the employee furnish a certificate of clearance from the Department of Motor Vehicles in order to meet District insurability. The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive or exhaustive list. BIS Paraeducators support students with disabilities in accessing their educational program by implementing Behavior Intervention Services (BIS) aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Working under the direction of Behavior Analysts (e.g., BCBA), the BIS Paraeducator provides direct behavioral support to students individually or in small groups across school settings, implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and other evidence-based strategies with consistency and fidelity. BIS Paraeducators follow established protocols for de-escalation and crisis response to support student and staff safety. This role is focused on direct service delivery and implementation of behavioral supports and does not include general classroom instructional support, staff training, or coaching responsibilities. May demonstrate or model implementation of behavior strategies for consistency, as directed. The BIS Paraeducator collects, records, and summarizes behavioral data aligned to IEP goals and behavior plans, and shares objective, data-based observations with their supervising Behavior Analyst. As the Itinerant BIS Paraeducator, you will: Provide Behavior Intervention Services (BIS) to students individually and/or in small groups as outlined in a student’s IEP Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and other evidence-based behavioral interventions aligned to student IEP goals Support development of students’ social-emotional, behavioral, and self-regulation skills through direct implementation of interventions Implement reinforcement systems and behavior supports as designed by Behavior Analysts Collect, document, and report data on student behavior and progress toward IEP goals Utilize SFUSD data systems, including SEIS and SHN Paradigm, to review IEPs and report services Model behavior intervention strategies to support fidelity of implementation across settings and staff Follow established protocols for de-escalation, crisis response, and implementation of approved emergency intervention techniques to maintain safety Maintain compliance with SFUSD Professional Standards, safety procedures, and confidentiality requirements Participate in ongoing related training as required and provided by the school district Perform all related duties as assigned The strongest candidates will have: Knowledge of San Francisco’s public schools/urban public schools and a passionate belief in SFUSD’s commitment to instructional leadership as a lever toward delivering on the SFUSD Graduate Profile Strong analytics and systems thinking necessary to interpret data to inform goals and strategy, as well as build infrastructure where none exists Ability to work effectively across multiple functions and roles within a complex organization A proven record of effectively planning, organizing and using resources to take action and achieve goals The ability to learn quickly and adapt as needed in a fast‑paced environment Outstanding organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail A flexible, “can do” work ethic with a focus on identifying challenges and proactively working to find solutions while maintaining a bigger picture lens and focus on what can be delivered instead of what cannot be done Excellent data analysis skills and experience synthesizing data to drive action steps Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with senior level district staff and colleagues Effective written and verbal communication and the ability to clearly communicate complex, bureaucratic processes to a variety of audiences Ability to define and implement effective HR business practices Ability to work effectively in difficult situations that involve confidential and sensitive matters Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and GSuite (Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms) Minimum Qualifications An Associate’s Degree or higher OR 48 college units and a High School Diploma OR passing of CBEST and a high school diploma OR passing of the instructional aide exam and high school diploma One (1) year of successful experience working with students who have significant social‑emotional and/or behavioral needs, i.e. direct student care or as an instructional aide working in a public school, nonpublic school or nonpublic agency setting What We Offer SFUSD offers a competitive salary of $31.52 - $36.87 hourly commensurate with experience in a similar position.
