Overview

Chicago Magic Lounge is seeking a hands-on, people-focused HR Generalist to support our team and day-to-day operations. This part-time role (approximately 20 hours per week) is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, hospitality-driven environment and enjoys being a trusted, approachable resource for both staff and leadership.

This role is highly interactive and onsite, supporting a diverse team that includes front-of-house staff, operational team members, and performers. The ideal candidate is practical, organized, and comfortable balancing structure with the unique energy of a live entertainment venue.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations & Team Support (Primary Focus)

· Serve as a visible, onsite HR resource for employees and supervisors

· Provide practical guidance on workplace policies, expectations, and best practices

· Support conflict resolution and help address employee concerns in a timely, thoughtful manner

· Assist managers with attendance tracking, coaching conversations, and performance documentation

· Help maintain a respectful, professional, and team-oriented work environment

Hiring, Onboarding & Offboarding

· Support hiring managers with job postings, applicant screening, and interview coordination

· Help ensure a smooth and efficient hiring process for high-turnover hospitality roles

· Conduct new hire onboarding and ensure completion of required documentation

· Coordinate background checks, I-9 verification, and new hire setup

· Maintain compliance with applicable hiring requirements

· Ensure consistent and compliant offboarding practices, including documentation, final pay coordination, and accurate updates to employee records and systems.

· Support unemployment (IDES) requests and COBRA administration as needed, in coordination with external providers.

HR Operations & Coordination

· Maintain accurate employee records and HR system data

· Assist employees with basic benefits and payroll questions (in coordination with external providers)

· Support consistent application of company policies and procedures

· Coordinate with external partners as needed for compliance-related matters

Training, Culture & Engagement

· Support basic training initiatives, including safety and compliance training

· Assist with internal communication and team engagement efforts

· Contribute to a workplace culture that balances professionalism, hospitality, and performance

· Help reinforce an environment that respects both the operational team and the artistry of our performers

Qualifications

· Minimum 2 years of HR experience, ideally in hospitality, entertainment, or a service-based environment

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills; approachable and solution-oriented

· Ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and sound judgment

· Comfortable working in a fast-paced, shift-based environment with a diverse team

· Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through

· Proficiency with HR systems and basic office tools

· Ability to work onsite consistently during scheduled hours, including some evenings or weekends as needed
