Weld Prep

Summary/Objective 
Identify and record each pipe produced by the three roll bending or JCO forming machine.  Make all required preparations on the pipe for the submerged arc welding process. 

Essential Functions

The following essential functions are to be performed in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) established for this position and will be performed on a continuing basis during the work shift. 
1.    Identify each pipe produced by the forming machine.
2.    Enter the pipe number in the I5 program.
3.    Visually inspect ID & OD of each pipe and identify all tack weld defects for repair. 
4.    Perform required repairs by grinding and welding according to SOPs.
5.    Operate cutting torch to clean pipe ends
6.    Prepare start / stop tab and stock area with overhead crane. 
7.    Tack weld start /stop tabs on both ends of pipe.
8.    Groove weld start/stop tabs for tracking.
9.    Operate the roll lines to transport pipe within the weld prep and to the SAWs.
10.    Empty flux hoppers as required. 
11.    Assist maintenance technicians and perform PMs as scheduled.
12.    Perform area housekeeping tasks
13.    Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, and vibration on the production floor. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions, including high and low temperatures. The employee may have exposure to chemicals, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and the potential of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment can be loud and subject to the company’s hearing conservation program requirements. This position works in an environment in which safety demands constant attention; and requires safety equipment such as hardhats, safety glasses, earplugs and steel toe shoes.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, sit, stand and walk, reach with hands and arms, use hands to grasp or feel; and occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, climb or balance. The employee may lift items up to 40 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and depth perception.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work may span during the week from Monday through Saturday, with the schedule determined by the supervisor. Rotating evening or weekend shift work may be required, based on operational need.

Knowledge Required
Basic mechanical understanding

Required Education and Work Experience
1.    High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education and Work Experience
Prior experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.
