Job Description

This role is ideal for an experienced Facilities Technician or Facilities Engineer with strong commercial HVAC and refrigeration expertise, combined with solid skills in plumbing, electrical systems, and general building maintenance. You will operate, inspect, and maintain mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC/R, and production equipment across commercial facilities to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations.

Responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, and maintain all HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and production equipment and systems in assigned facilities to achieve optimal efficiency and maximize equipment life expectancy.
• Ensure all equipment operates in an energy-efficient and safe manner, proactively anticipating necessary repairs and maintaining records of past operating performance to minimize downtime.
• Perform routine and corrective inspections and repairs on interior and exterior building areas, including walls, flooring, installed fixtures, roofing systems, lighting, and related components.
• Focus strongly on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment across all HVAC/R systems.
• Demonstrate multi-skilled capabilities in electrical, HVAC, piping and plumbing, material handling equipment, and other building systems to successfully complete daily and weekly work assignments.
• Carry out ongoing preventive maintenance and repair response work orders on facility mechanical, electrical, and other installed systems, equipment, and components.
• Maintain, operate, and repair all HVAC/R systems and associated equipment, electrical distribution equipment, plumbing systems, building interior and exterior elements, and related grounds and production equipment.
• Perform assigned facility inspections and due diligence activities, documenting conditions that may impact satisfactory occupancy and ongoing operations.
• Utilize CMMS systems such as Corrigo to create, manage, and update work orders, ensuring real-time status updates and accurate maintenance records.
• Be available for call-in work and perform other related duties as required to support facility operations.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 4 years of technical experience in all aspects of building engineering and maintenance, with a strong in HVAC/R, plumbing, electrical, and production equipment repair and maintenance.
• Proven experience troubleshooting and maintaining commercial refrigeration systems, including supermarket refrigeration.
• Hands-on experience with commercial building maintenance and repair, including carpentry, lighting, painting, and general facilities maintenance.
• Technical expertise in HVAC and refrigeration, including commercial HVAC systems and HVAC/R troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose and resolve issues in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and material handling equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation related to building systems and equipment.
• Valid state driver’s license, maintained in good standing.
• Universal CFC recovery certification, or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of employment.
• Knowledge of overall building system design and applications, including how HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and refrigeration systems integrate.
• High school diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience using CMMS work order systems, such as Corrigo, to manage maintenance activities and documentation.
• Working knowledge of common computer applications, including Word and Excel, for reporting and documentation.
• Two years of trade school education or documented apprenticeship in electrical systems, refrigeration, and HVAC.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and building systems.
• Experience with facilities maintenance tasks such as carpentry, painting, lighting repair, and general building upkeep.
• Ability to perform due diligence inspections and provide clear, detailed reports on facility conditions.
• Willingness to respond to call-in work outside standard hours when required.

Work Environment

This position follows a Monday through Friday schedule, typically from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will service various client sites and commercial buildings, working both indoors and outdoors on mechanical rooms, roof-mounted equipment, interior spaces, and building exteriors. The environment is hands-on and equipment-focused, involving regular use of HVAC/R systems, electrical distribution equipment, plumbing systems, production equipment, and computerized maintenance management systems such as Corrigo. Work may include climbing ladders, accessing roofs, and performing repairs in mechanical and utility spaces, with appropriate safety practices and attire required for a facilities and maintenance setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Charlottesville, VA.

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $35.00/hr.
