Minimum Qualifications Under general supervision, responsible for archaeological work of average difficulty and performs related work as required. Other Requirements Survey archaeological sites by conducting personal interviews to locate sites and remains. Conduct research to obtain tax and deed records, maps, county historic, and census reports that may reveal archaeological significance. Provide an accurate, up‑to‑date file of archaeological site data. Assist higher‑level archaeologists in writing field data and supervise laborers and others involved in excavating sites. Prepare records and reports such as site information records, research data, maps or charts, and manuscripts. Transcribe archival materials relevant to the history of Civil War and other sites by reading microfilm information and reporting on the excavations. Operate a motor vehicle. Job Overview Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology or another field with substantial coursework in archaeology. Qualifying full‑time professional experience in archaeology may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis, up to a maximum of four years. Competencies (KSA’s): A valid vehicle operator’s license may be required for employment in some positions. Examination Method: Education and experience rating, 100 %. State Employee Benefits Insurance options available to state employees include: Health Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance Annual leave: full‑time employees earn annual leave each month based on years of service: 0‑5 years – 1 day per month 5‑10 years – 1 ½ days per month 10‑20 years – 1 ¾ days per month 20 years or more – 2 days per month Maximum allowable days: 30, 36, 39, 42 days. Leave earned in excess of the maximum transferable to the employee’s sick leave account annually on the employee’s anniversary hire date. Sick leave: all full‑time employees accrue 1 day (7.5 hours) of sick leave per month, provided they work the major portion of that month. Bereavement leave: paid leave granted for three days in the event of the death of a spouse, child, stepchild, grandchild, parent, grandparent, sibling, stepparent, foster parent, or parent‑in‑law; two additional days of sick leave may be granted for a total of five days. Family medical leave: up to twelve work weeks of leave each year for eligible employees for certain family and medical reasons. Health insurance coverage continues during leave and the employee is reinstated upon return. Parental leave: granted to employees with at least 12 consecutive months of full‑time service; up to four months following the birth of a child combined with sick, annual, or special leave without pay. Military leave: granted in accordance with applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations. Holidays: each year, full‑time state employees receive 11 holidays off with pay. Retirement: state employees are automatically members of the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS). Employees must accrue five years of creditable state service to be vested. Vested members become eligible for service retirement upon completion of thirty years of creditable service or attainment of age sixty. Deferred compensation: employees may choose to make pre‑tax contributions to a variety of investment options through the 401(k) plan or the 457 plan. A minimum $20 monthly contribution is required; the state matches $50 per month in the 401(k) plan. Flexible benefits plan: certain specific expenses (medical and dental insurance premiums, medical expenses, dependent day care expenses) can be deducted from an employee’s paycheck prior to taxes. Higher education fee discounts and waivers: a 25 % discount on undergraduate tuition at any state‑operated institution for children 23 years of age or under; full‑time employees with six months of continuous service may have tuition fees waived for one course per semester. Baccalaureate Education System Trust (BEST) Program: created by the Tennessee General Assembly to provide families with a means to save for their children’s future college education costs. Wellness program: works to increase employees’ knowledge of healthier lifestyles through information and events that focus on improving behaviors affecting health (e.g., health risk assessments, fitness events, smoking cessation programs, and other benefits).
