Job Description The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) reports to the Plasma Center Manager and supports plasma center operations. Responsibilities include determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, reviewing laboratory results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. The specialist works under the guidance of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager) and the Center Physician for medical issues. Responsibilities Determine donor eligibility including informed consent, education, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and review of Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE). Evaluate donor reactions as outlined in SOPs and follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies, including development of Center Physician’s standing orders and transporting donors to emergency care facilities. Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs when providing findings to donors or guidance on medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility. Support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable. Manage employee incidents and determine further evaluation required by occupational health/ER, referencing EHS guidance. Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent, including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements. Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT-Paramedic. Current CPR and AED certification. State requirement for basic IV therapy. Completion of FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist. At least two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
