Job Description Summary Full time Outpatient Orthopedic Physical Therapy resident position, in conjunction with the Ortho Residency program at MUSC. 40 hour work week will be arranged around class time and based on clinic demand/ needs, which may include early, late, or Saturday schedules. They work under the direction of the clinical residency program director and Rehab manager. The resident also participates in educational, program development, and community service activities. They must meet all curriculum requirements of the residency program, receive general supervision, and collaborate with other healthcare team members. Evaluates, administers, and directs administration of therapeutic procedures to patients recovering from injury, disease, surgery, or other ailments, as prescribed by a referring practitioner, establishes goals of physical therapy, and re-assesses patient’s progress at regular, timely intervals, and supporting findings with appropriate documentation. This job classification is required to care for patients of all ages. May direct support staff in assisting with treatment. Job Tasks Consultation and Assessment Consulting with patients to understand their physical condition, symptoms, and medical history. Assessing and interpreting patient evaluations and test results. Developing personalized treatment plans using a variety of treatment techniques. Treatment Planning and Implementation Creating individualized rehab programs for patients. Utilizing various treatment methods such as therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and modalities (heat, cold, ultrasound). Educating and coaching patients on therapeutic exercises and stretches to improve their condition. Providing Hands-On Therapy and Pain Management techniques Manual therapy, joint mobilizations, soft tissue mobilization, etc. Maintaining patient’s electronic medical record Maintaining accurate patient records, tracking goals and progress. Documenting adaptations to treatment plans based on patient response and changing needs. Advising patients and their families on in-home treatment options and recovery expectations and appropriately documenting education.
