Job Description The Department of Public Safety at the University of Tennessee at Martin is currently accepting applications for a Police Officer position. Responsibilities Performs a wide range of police duties, enforcing laws, rules, and regulations to protect lives and property within the university community. Patrols and regulates pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Arrests suspects when necessary. Escorts funds for various university units. Provides first aid treatment. Works well with students, staff, and law enforcement agencies in the area. Interviews suspects, witnesses, and victims to develop evidence and secure information for court or University proceedings. Operates in a 24/7 operational environment, available for all assigned shifts, day and night, weekends, holidays, and times when the University is closed. Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude; passes extensive background check. Physical strength and agility to apprehend suspects. Passes written test, physical agility test, medical physical (including drug test), and psychological examination. Must have or be able to obtain a valid Tennessee Driver's License. Preferred Qualifications Successful completion of 60 semester college credit hours and/or certified as a police officer in the State of Tennessee. Certification documents or documentation indicating capability to obtain Tennessee Police Officer certification. Minimum hiring rate: $19.02 per hour for non-certified, $22.00 per hour for certified (Market Range 06). Salary commensurate with education and experience. #J-18808-Ljbffr
